Take some warm clothes! I rode from Denver to Kremmling and then back a few years back in August...it can be cold as all get out in the morning at the higher elevations; leather jacket, some layering even a thermal shirt is a good idea.

This was taken the morning of the return in Idaho Springs...trust me, it was cold!

I know it's summer but you might want a light jacket at higher elevations. Take a small first aid kit, not really useful if you have an accident but good for minor cuts or whatever. Sunscreen and remember to use it. I like to carry a couple bottles of drinking water also just in case. Hope you have a good trip and ride safe. I hope you got your tire problems taken care of too.

+1 on the sunscreen...thinner atmosphere, less sun protection

If you do your own work, take a good tool kit. If not, save the space for something else and just take the kit that came on the bike. Rain suits. Even though it is summer, if you get drowned going down the road in high country, it can be cold. Cell phone. Take 2, take a spare battery, take a charging system for the phone! I have forgotten those before. Any idea how much an I-phone charger is in Guatemala? (not on the bike, but you get the picture) Take a camera, with HUGE storage, and take lots of pictures. You are young now, and one day you will not be able to find the time for a trip like this. Get some of them TSA legal toiletries. You don't need a big 'ol bottle of anything (well, a couple might not hurt Take a tire pressure gauge that works and you trust, and check you tires cold, every morning before you hit the road. A comm system would be great. since you have a passenger. If not, throw in the ear buds (take a spare set) and load up the MP3 with your favorite music. Makes the good scenery, and the bad scenery go by smooth. Take the time with your girl to work thru some simple hand signals if you don't have a comm rig, so you can communicate. I can almost guarantee she will want to stop more than you.

Hope this helps. I'm a bit jealous. Love to get my woman on the road for a run like that sometime.

Be Safe.

I ALWAYS forget to take something. Not too big of a deal with Wally World and dollar stores everywhere now. Forgot about the rainsuit, mine always stays in the saddlebag unless I am wearing it. Have fun!

The rain suit blocks wind, and is smaller rolled up than leather anything! I like them for the unexpected cooler temps. Ugly, but functional. Oh yea, jerky and water. Not for general use, emergency rations only! You can get jerky and water for immediate use at the gas station.
At least 2 flashlights. Small is ok, but make sure you have one for each of you. If one breaks, you still have the minimum amount needed for most tasks!

credit cards, they'll get you thru most anything Seriously, don't sweat it too much. The 1st few trips, you'll either over pack or forget something, it's just part of the learning curve. Check your bike before you go, take care of ANY possible concerns, & enjoy the ride

If (God forbid) you do have a problem in the middle of nowhere, having water is a big + especially in the summer.
