Going through Colorado, you may want something along the lines of a bandana. If you get anywhere near the fires, it can act as a breathing filter. Worst case, you can wet it and use it as a wash rag.

+1 on the jacket and I'll add gloves. Everything is cold when your hands and feet are cold. Zip ties, and a small roll of electrical and duct tape because you never know.

I know it's summer but you might want a light jacket at higher elevations. Take a small first aid kit, not really useful if you have an accident but good for minor cuts or whatever. Sunscreen and remember to use it. I like to carry a couple bottles of drinking water also just in case. Hope you have a good trip and ride safe. I hope you got your tire problems taken care of too. Yes sir I just went and bought new tires and started over oh well. I like these michlen way better

A gun. And possibly a bear trap. You could be attacked by bears. Where would you be without a bear trap then?

Can of fix-a-flat. It's ugly and messes up the inside of hte wheels, but it will get you back to civilization. Quart of oil and perhaps some water purifying tablets wouldn't be a bad idea.

And you know we'll be expecting pix too. On the water, I like to freeze a couple of bottles, it melts pretty quick but it's still colder that way if you need it. Most motels have small fridges these days so I just refreeze them at nite.

On the phone thing, if you have a smart phone turn off the WiFi antenna while you're on the road. That thing eats battery looking for a signal constantly.

I actually saw 2 bears cross the road in front of me in TN. Didn't seem too interested in attacking me tho. That was one of the high points of my trip. Never really expected to see a bear in the wild.

How about a port-a-potty for those emergency stops, a mini fridge for keeping the steaks cold and a propane stove w/pot & pans to go with. Don't forget to carry an extra propane tank. Hell, leave the bikes at home and rent a RV!!!
