Yeah I figured I cheated on mine but measured what I drained out of both and split it for refill, added trans fluid and work forks up and down and drained again, then refilled with 10w fork oil,no problems so far, will take apart this winter and do again fork oil looked and smelled bad

The bolt on the bottom is not, I repeat not a drain hole for the fork oil. Besides why bother with them, you have to take the the caps off any way, and you would want to use some extra tranny fluid and at least pump the forks a few times to clean all the gunk out. Might as well do it right and not take short cuts.

I agree with that was a shortcut next time I will pull them off all the way just figured it will give it some time to flush more fluid out and add that to my winter down time list

And you can use tranny fluid in replacement for fork oil. Usually tranny fluid is about a 10wt. Old school way of doing it. Did mine about 50k miles ago and no issues.

can I replace the fork springs with progressive without removing fairing and by just accessing the cap on top of the forks and sliding tube out the bottom?

It has worked quite well for me the two times that I have done it with the bottom bolt, It's very easy to remove all the fluid and refill with the forks on the bike.

No. You have to be able to access clamp bolts behind the headlight. It will have to come off.
