Hot today 11 Months ago
Got to work today, helmet in hand, when a buddy who also rides says "You rode in today? You're crazy, do you know how hot it's going to be?" I told him that yes, I did in fact look at the weather, and was aware it would be 98F with 60% humidity. And yet I rode in. I chose a light-weight pair of pants and a dry-fit nike polo which is glorified mesh, air passes right through it. My ride home was good, too. Sure, it was warm, but I kept moving, even if only at 10-20mph, but at long as I was moving, it felt just fine.

It may get to cold for me to ride, but I've never been to hot to ride.

We went like 3 months straight above 97 degrees last year in Dallas. I'm up here in Maine, and they are talking about closing early because of the "heat". 90 degrees people! Not even body temperature yet!!!

Re:Hot today 11 Months ago
I'm fine clear to 100 all day long, until it's time to sleep. Then it needs to be crisp in the bedroom or I'll be tossing and turning all night. I seriously wonder about the genetics of those folks who "pass out" at 90f from heat exhaustion. They were talking on the news tonight about people leaving a graduation in an ambulance because it was hot! They opened "cooling centers" in the city, where people could seek refuge from the heat! I used to live in wichita falls, that heat was cake, it was super dry. I'll admit it's nasty up here, but how the hell do you pass out from 90F. It's been hotter than that for extended periods every single year since the dawn of time in this region. Heat is not a new concept. Air conditioning is. I don't get it.

Maybe it is because Uncle Sugar loved to send me to hot places, and I'm really used to it. Yakima Desert, Mojave Desert, Central America, Iraq, and now (mostly) North Texas!

Years back, I did some work in June in the Midlands/Odessa area. They'd had a few showers, and the humidity wouldn't get below 23%. They were all dying from the wet.
