My local dealer has these bars for $89.00 and I have a $100 gift card. My only concern is they are not knurled. Will this be a problem?

Call around to you local shops (metal fab, motorcycle, auto) and see if they have a knurling machine. They can do it pretty quickly most of the time. **I would seriously look into this option because if you aren’t able to get the riser to clamp tight the bar will slip. This, my friend will supply you with a pucker factor of about 9.5 because it will happen at the worst possible time (going into a corner or on an interstate in rush hour traffic)**. Once you find a shop with a machine place your bars up to the riser and mark the bars (with masking tape) showing the outside of the riser for the shop to understand where to knurl. They could go crazy and knurl too much

Another option is ask your shop to order you Flanders (what I have) or Drag Specialties. Both offer knurled and are about the same price. This way you still can use the gift card.

I am also pulling trigger on ape hangers...got 16" Kong Bars from Phat Performance, and cables from Tim B. At the same time, I plan on installing AIS removal kit, PCIII, and new grips. Does anyone have or know of where there are step by step instructions (written or video). I want to be sure I follow a good sequence. I am sure some of you Ape Guys have a tidbit of knowledge I wont find in a manual.

That lkink is from the first page of this thread and a little more than half way down I kind of broke down my time. J & P Cycle has a Road Star Customizing book that comes with a DVD. They install Kong bars on that bike however, I can't find it on their website.

EDIT - found it! http://blog.jpcycles.com/2010/01/how-to-customize-a-yamaha-roadstar-motorcycle/

I got all my money yesterday and will be making the purchase any time now.....Im like a kid on Christmas Eve now

Now that it has come time to make the purchase im getting nervous about doing the install myself. My rule generally is "I dont work on anything that can get me killed". Grinder I appreciate the offer to help with the install but im not in a position to make the drive right now. Is there anyone local to salisbury that could help with the install? I have no problem providing the beer. I thought about calling The Hawg Shop to see what they will charge for the install but I have not.
