Flip and Grind - can you help me decide? 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago

I was looking at my bike tonight. Thinking how much better it would look and feel with lower rear end. I've been hesitant to do it because before upgrading to progressive springs front and rear I was bottoming out and scraping floorboards.
So how much clearance (lean) and shock travel do you trade with the flip and grind?

I grind the piss outta my duals, and have even hit the bottom rear of the frame several times. Two up I have to ride really slow on twisties to keep from dragging and scaring her if your not a aggressive rider you'll be ok for the most part. But even still don't be surprised when you grind. I would say you would be better off buying a lowering kit so you have some adjustability to fine tune it to your riding style.

If you flip, you will definately grind! Lowered bikes look real sharp, but for me, I won't do any mod that makes my performance go backward. I grind the snot out of my boards the way it is, and I've ground the rear of the frame a couple of times. I'm usually too far from home when I realize that my inclination for riding hard on that given day was probably better suited to the SV. It'll be nice to get the XS650 in the stable in good condition, so I have an "in between" bike with some good comfort for a long day, but a little bit of a more sporting chassis.

+1
I got the adjustable dog bones so I could lower it just enough without grinding too much

Absolutely no point lowering it if you intend to keep the ugly sissy bar and pillion seat. They ruin the line of a bike far more than an inch of daylight between the tyre and fender does.

How do you know he is talking about Shacky's bike? If he is then he is being rude. If he isn't then you are jumping on him for stating his opinion on how he likes his bike to look
