Apes? 4 Years, 6 Months ago
Hey Fellas,
I want to put apes on my bike at some point, is 1 inch a good bar to use, does it look a little goofy that size bar on a big bike, or is it okay? Does a 1 1/4 bar look better? Also, where is a good place to buy some apes? Thanks

check out my pic, these are 1" apes, 12.5 inches high, got them from J&P Cycles Harley Cataloge for less than $40. I had to file down the small tip on the righthand control where the stock bar has a hole in it.
The advantage of going to a 1.25" would be running internal wiring, plus they do look great. Go ahead and plan on spending more $$$$ on brake lines and cables. I measured my stock cables and just rerouted them, if I went any taller I would have replaced them. I did replace the brake line from the controll to the splitter with a steel braided one.
By the way, sweet ride you got, I really like the black on white!

Thanks, so would your brake line have worked or was it a requirement to up size it?

I installed baron 1 1/4 drag bars on mine. I personally think the R* front end needs the larger bars, internal wiring a plus. just my 2cts.

It was definitly a requirement, the stock line had nothing to give. Anything more than 12"s will need longer cables and control wires. There was enough wire behind the headlight to loosen up, if you run them internally you may also need a couple more inches.
The 12.5" handlebars puts my hands almost shoulder high riding down the road. I am 6'2" tall.

I've got the same as RSB (12.5" Apes from J&P), but also added the 4 inch risers, too. So, I did have to replace the cables and went with the Steel Braided. At 6'3" it does 'fit' me better and the 3' extended floorboards help out, too.
