Was riding yesterday when suddenly the cage in front of me ran over a freshly killed deer out near Sleepy Hollow for those in fla that know the area. It scattered all over the road and I ran over some part of it which scared me to death but I pulled through it, pulled over and removed it off the road since lots of bikes run these roads. I don't hate the deer...I love them and yes I'm one of those mean bad hunters that absolutely LOVE whitetails. If these states would pull their heads out of their butts and let hunters who do more for conservation and management than any government agency ever thought of. It would provide plenty of meat for those of us that love it and supply food for the needy, homeless, shelters etc... its ridiculous.

I'am one of those mean bad hunters also,as a matter of fact I'am a big game outfitter, and you are so right about
goverment agencies getting their heads out of you know what.I think I'am going to go check my trail cams and put out
some more mineral.

I live 6 miles off the highway on a lake. Deer and wild hogs are our main problems. No one hunts around here and they have over run the place. If i get caught out late it's a very slow ride home.

Rule of thumb is not to run over any animal that is too large to consume in one meal. I was almost dumped by a family of Racoons. It happens fast and if you don't have the mindset that we share the road with all kinds of animals then it comes as a big suprise. It can be a really big suprise in "Open Range" areas and you can end up paying for the cow or horse as well. I was wondering if deer whistles are worth checking out. Anyone try them? Pete

Well here in Wisconsin deer are a big issue. Over the past couple of years i have lost 3 friends to bike deer accidents. Call me a chicken but deer are the reason i will not ride after the sun goes down. They get real active between 7 and 10 PM and betwee 4 and 7 AM at least around here. Too bad really, i really enjoy riding just as the sun is going down. On the plus side though, i have seen deer during the middle of the day and it appears they don't like my load pipes, they turn and go the other way. Has anybody else had that happen because of your pipes? Stay safe guys and gals!!!

I ride to work at 0415 every morning (when the weather permits that is ) on county roads. Here in Southeast Iowa we boast of having the largest white tail deer in the country. I HATE the bastards! My thoughts are that there should be an open season on them all year using the hunter's choice of taking them out - be it shotgun, bow & arrow, high power rifle, cross bow, knife, rocks, whatever. Just get rid of them, or put up 40' high fences along the roads so they can't get on the road.
There are 4 places on my 20 mile ride that I see deer every day. Since I know about at least these 4 places I slow waaaaaay down and when I see them I rev my bike. My 3" Hard Krome pipes work wonders......like you, tlaccopp, I think they are enough afraid of the noise that they scatter! I haveen't had any of them try to dart out in front of me yet......still VERY cautious, though

Coming home from my daughter's home in rural Meck County. Just as their road ends at the highway, there's a large field on the right.

It was about 3:00 am. I came around the curve in the road, there are probably 6 or 8 in the field. I pulled in the clutch and blipped the throttle a couple of times. They all scattered back into the darkness.

The only time in my life I can say that loud pipes may have saved a life.

I deliver freight at night and I have deer whistles on my vehicle. They work well to get the animal's attention and I see many running away long before I get to them. I never swerve or lock-up my brakes. Just the other night I was driving past a farm and I came on a bunch of eyes looking at me in a group. I thought it was a family of coons or skunks and I expected them to run from the whistle like they always do, but no...Kittens! Dang things sat there looking at me until the end. Not sure about that nine life thing. Glad I wasn't on the bike- that would have been slippery!
