Time to tighten the drive belt. As the reference marks for aligning the rear wheel are a little on the ..er.. basic side, is there a preferred (reliable) reference point from which to measure to the rear axle centre to obtain proper alignment?

The way I double check mine is to ride it, stop and look at the belt position on the pulley. If it runs consistently on one side of the pulley then your wheel is out of line.

I think you'll find that many Roadies run with the belt running to the inside of the pulley (but not rubbing) Mine does and both sides measure dead on. Setting the wheel alignmaent by centering the belt can lead to problems. My opinion anywho. But you need to do what works on your bike.

I check mine by placing a straight piece of conduit on each side of the rear tire they can be wire tied together through the rear wheel and lay the conduit past the front tire (this takes 2 people to accomplish)have second person hold bike upright and you can make sure the front wheel is held paralell to the conduit make sure the conduit is not flexed to one side or the other when the distance on both sides of the front tire to the conduit are equal it is aligned. The belt will run where it will but very seldom will it rub either side of the pulley. If it does check it again. Just my way of checking and my 2 cents.

Good idea TD1600! I did my alignment by spinning the wheel and centering the belt on the pulley like BS said. About 800miles later I got new tires and had the guy check the alignment and he said it was good. Guess I was lucky.

How wide should the belt be? Mine fits the back pulley almost perfectly, I mean maybe the thickness of a business card clearance on each side..
