Well I am not a mechanic or a bodyman but am able to accomplish most anything I come across. Had some credit left at the local dealer so got the two rear chrome fender pieces to install. Read the directions, reread, and did it by the book, tape, marks on tape ect... Put rear one on first, used some silicone to ensure not to have any rattles. First thing I did was get my fingers in the silicone and got it all over the chrome. Not to worry as when it is cured it will pull off pretty easy, that is if you do not first smear it like I did. Drilled first hole and had a heart attack as the bit ran all over the area! Drilled the second hole and this one I did a little bit better. Finnaly got the first machine screw ( why is it not a machine bolt?) in and moved over to the second one. Damn, the holes were not even close. Ok, drilled the second through the chrome hole and it acted like a guide. Got the machine screw in and moved to the front fender. I must admitt the front went without any snags! Feeling pretty good about myself I see if the smeared silicone will peel off. Not a chance, had to use thumbnail to scrape ever bit of it off. Moved back to see my masterpiece and the rear fender chrome is not where it should be!!! Looks all kattywampus!!!! Take out the screw on the offending side and find I had not got the chrome over the lip of the finder. Heartbroken and pissed at myself I drill the third hole on that side. Looks great now!! Oh by the way the concrete in Florida this time of year will burn you! Do not ask!  <br><br>Post edited by: dl, at: 2004/06/29 19:40

Hang in there Dick.
I usually tap pilot dimples into sheet metal when I have to drill. It helps to keep the bit in place when you are drilling.
But, I learned that the hard way

when I put on my front one...the drill didn't move around, BUT I did manage to push the drill thru the fender pretty hard....good thing my tire was there to stop that drill!!!!!....6000 miles later, same tire no problems.

Did you check out the front fender tip? I put all three fender tips on my Midnite and really like the look.

looking for fender tips that I don't have to drill holes to use, I have a body shop and we put moldings on all the time with adhesives with no problems, I don't have the heart to drill holes in these beautiful fenders.
