Hi fellas and Ladies, I am looking to get a 06 Roadstar, but first I was wanting to put my mind at ease before I buy one.
The air cooling, are roadstars known to have problems with this type of cooling?
Are there any major flaws in the 06's? Yamaha approved me for 15,000 and I want to make sure I get the bike with least problems. Of course the Yama stealer told me they are basicly perfect bikes, so I just want to see how actual owners rate these nice looking bikes.

I think you'll find that pretty much anyone from this forum would tell you they love their bikes. I love mine.

Since they are air cooled, I'd advise running a good quality oil in it. It has to be able to hold up to the extra heat. I've ridden my bike on 100+ degree days and seen plenty of Harleys under overpasses trying to cool their engines down as I keep right on going. I've even been caught in traffic on a hot day like that and no problems.

Mine is an '05 and I've had no problems with it. I haven't heard about any problems with '06s. I would assume its pretty much the same bike still.

I paid $14,000 out the door for mine with a few extra goodies on it and an extended warranty. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Oh another question I was wondering about, does yamaha recommend 90+ gas for the R*?

Hey thanks for your input! Cant wait to get one. I would be getting one out the door with pipes and a couple helmets for $12,400, without pipes Im looking $11,127.00 out the door.

One of the reasons I got my 05 * was because of it being air cooled, but I'm old fashion on some things. I rode on some pretty hot days last year and never had a problem, remember radiators can overheat also. Use regular gas in it, don't use 90+

I can give you my view so far on my 06 R*. Love it! No complaints or problems as far as the mechanics of the bike. She's real smooth and easy to get along with. Plenty of power for me and she handles like a dream. Scraped the floorboards a few times but I do that on everybike. I've only owned 1 bike that wasn't air cooled and I had very few problems but then I don't ride my bike in rush hour traffic and It doesn't get up in the 90s and 100s here that often so it might be different for someone down south. Newer bikes handle the heat alot better than older ones. Even Harley's I agree on the oil, don't scrimp on that and I think you'll be fine. At 6' 4" I find the leg room a little cramped with the boards and I don't like the stacked 2 into 2 exhaust but that's personal taste and has nothing to do with the dependability of the bike. I think you'll be as happy as we are.

IM just gonna have my dealer do the oil change for a bit till I get to having a relationship with "her", what oil is recommended? or is there a link you can provide so I can find out?

From the owners manual - Yamalub 4 (20W40) or SAE 20W40. API Service SE, SF, SG or higher.

Welcome to the Clinic. There are also a number of R* sites on Delphi forums that you can get more info..

As was said, you'll find most love their R* but as with anything there are always some that have problems.

The bike if fairly bulletproof, mine included. Most of the 'problems' have been worked out over the years. One area that seems to be a problem (not related to the bike) is finding a good dealer. In general, Yamaha dealers don't seem to be as 'service friendly' as the HD shops.

If you want a quite motor then I'd recommend an water-cooled bike. The R*s are noisy and tend to get noiser the hotter they run. If you like running in parades then go water-cooled, the engine tends to get too hot when there's no air flowing around the jugs.
