Sickening sound!! 6 Years ago
Don't know what the hell happened. There was sand but not that much. I was doing a U turn because of a blocked road and it felt like the ass end kicked out. Just enough that I couldn't hold it up. I held it long enough to stop it but it still went down. Scratched clutch lever and dented passing lamp rim is all the damage I can see but on a shiny new spotless bike it sucks. The passing lamp came loose and spun which is probably a good thing. Had to take it apart and tighten up the nut inside. The worst part is the sound the bike makes when it hits the ground. It just makes you sick.

Sorry to hear about that.

Welcome to the "dropped-bike" club. The first time I dropped mine was at a gas station trying to look cool. Forgot to put down the stand.

These bikes have so much torque and with that thin tire it doesnt' take much to break it loose.

When it rains and I take off from a green light, as soon as the rear tire hits the white crossing marker I can feel it spin if I give it too much gas.

Well, this isn't my first dropped bike but it is my first dropped NEW bike. I will say I haven't forgot to put the stand down. I don't feel so bad now. That would definetly shoot the hell out of looking cool . Did have a guy I was riding with forget to put his feet down at a stop sign once but that was long ago in the drinking days. And why did the put such narrow tires on the R*? My ACE had wider tires.

I don't know if you've done any performance mods yet, like a new air box, rejetting, porting the intake manifold, new pipes.. once you've done that, you become EXTRA careful even doing normal maneuvers on gravel / rain.. everytime I get into the throttle when pulling out of a gravel driveway or if there is sand or dirt on the road I act like I'm driving on ice... once you beef these things up a little bit of throttle and the torque will break that back tire loose without even blinking an eye.. hoping my new 880's will be a little better than the bridgestones on there now.. glad you're ok.. the bike can be fixed.. I don't know where you're running lights can be tightened, but they are pretty easy to take apart.. I started riding as a kid on a dirtbike, dropped that more times than I can count... thankfully haven't dropped my roadstar, I can't imagine trying to pick this beast up... ~Guido

Hey Guido

The bike is stock as can be. It was just one of those things that happen once in a while to let you know you can't get too comfortable I guess. I was surprised at how easy it was to pick up. I think it's like the 5 second rule for dropping food on the floor. If I picked it up REAL quick there wouldn't be any damage. Got the light tightened back up. Just a nut inside. I will say that if I had a choice I would have had different tires on the bike but they're too new to dump for new ones.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2006/05/15 11:28

Only two kinds of bikers, my friend, thems that have been down and thems that will be down...no need to feel foolish, embarrassed, etc. it happens to all of us

I know exactly what you mean about that sound...I am the first kind of biker You got off light, you will be more careful and all in all it was nowhere near as bad as it could have been

Regards, Ted

I got the down part covered also. Twice. I was more worried about the bike than me. All I was thinking of is that pearl white tank and fender getting dented. Just had the front fender replaced when it went in for service because it was scratched on the showroom floor. But yeah. I was lucky. I do get accused of being over carefull (whatever that is) by some but right about the time you think you got a good handle on things it gives you a good wake up whack. I would like to have a video of me doing the one foot waltz with the bike around in a circle trying to keep it up. At least get some hurmor out of it.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2006/05/15 13:39
