Fuel pump keeps clicking???? 5 Years, 5 Months ago
Today I rode my bike (2005 Roadie w/5600 miles) for about 35 miles here in my town. One of my Buddies called me up, and ask if I wanted to ride for a while. So, this is about an hour later,so I go out to my Garage to start her up. As soon as I turn the switch on the fuel pump starts "clicking" and it keeps clicking and I start to smell fuel real bad. I cut the swith off and then turn it back on and it still keeps clicking??
I switch it off again and try to start the bike up and of course by this time it is flooded??

A few minutes later (5 minutes) it starts up and then the rest of the day I had no problem?? This Bike has never gave me any problems,....Has anyone here ever had this problem?? As it stands now everything is working perfect?? Any help will be greatly appreciated

Sounds like your float or the float needle got stuck.

yep, like musky said.. float bowl went dry which allows the float to hang lower than normal and it probably stuck in the down position..when the pump started shooting gas into the bowl, the float didn't rise back up..engine vibes probably freed it up... Check things out tho,,and make sure..last thing you want is raw gas dumping out...

Mine does the clicking when it sits for a couple of days and I turn the key on. before I hit the button I can hear it clicking for like 5 seconds or so then it stops. It doesnt do it again until it sits for a couple more days. I just figured it was the pump leakin off as it sits.

One more reason to use Sta-Bil as a steady diet in the fuel system. The new fuels laced with 10% ethynol have an electrolysis effect that can result in an etching of the brass seat where it contacts the aluminum needle body. The needle hangs up and flooding occurs. Although a stainless steel needle that might mitigate this problem is available, regular use of Stab-Bil has other benefits as well.

FRANKALLEN, read this.

I ended up having the second pump replaced too as it started puking again. The shop also went thru the entire fuel system, including the inside of the gas tank for contaminants or clogging. I have the extended warranty so it's all covered for me.

Just one more reason to put the new main jet in the carb and dump the pump don't forget to vent the cap if you do though did it before the first ride last spring and loved it once I vented the cap Dearman
