I bought my bike for nice leisurely cruising and occasionally busting the throttle on the open road. I've got the Motorman dvd which has some great tips, but cone dodging is not on my list of extra curricular activities.

25 years ago it was easier with the little honda hawk that I had, but the R* makes me work at it.
Even tho I am heavier I still can not throw the R* around the way I could the hawk.
The police in the states that get all the ride time, practice alot to be as good as they are,

That Guy is Good, he knows how to work that Harley, it is a matter of working the rear brake, throttle and clutch with maneuvering. I wonder how long it took him to get to that level. I guess practice does pay off.

Our Star Chapter has set up a practice range at an abandoned parking lot and we use the guidelines from Ride Like a Pro DVD to practice. I would love to say that I can nail it every time, but nothing like the guys in the video. As for the Police competition, they mostly ride Harley's and the steering locks have been cut away, they keep the engine RPM's up, slip the clutch and use the back brake to control speed. It is really something to watch. We have a Police Rodeo here every year and I learn lot just watching these guys ride.
As others have said, the Roadie makes you work. It has a longer wheel base and is not as manueverable and the Harley at slow speed, but what we give up on the slow end we gain in stability on the fast end. I used to ride a similar course with a 750 Honda and it was much easier!!!!
The Ride Like a Pro series is well worth a look and the practice will make anybody a better rider even if they never master the skills like these guys. At least you will stop sweating every time you have to make a U turn on a narrow road
