Cobra Speedster Longs vs.Cobra Lo-Boy Shotgun 4 Years, 3 Months ago
Folks,

Looking for a little information from the "experienced" amongst you. Does anyone have either of these pipes and if so can you enlighten me as the differences in their construction and in particular Sound/Loudness

Ive looked at the Cobra site as well as many others but I cannot find any details on the construction of these two pipes other than the Speedster's have a crossover, and saw no information on baffles etc.

There is quite a differnetial in the prices, and hey I'm a cheap B@st@rd

Hope you boys in the south are enjoying yourselves, it's 16F freakin degrees here and with the windchill they are reporting -1F

Thanks
Chris

I have the Speedster Slashdowns. I have had them for about 18 months and love them. Quality is good, not execeptional. What I like, is the sound. I ride with a lot of Vance and Hines, some HK, even a one guy with Nasty's, they are all too loud as far as I am concerned. The Cobra is loud and will crack when you get on it, but it is a nice rumble at cruise and the neighbors will not be upset when you leave early in the morning. They look good and fit well. Make sure you use new gaskets, and file or grind the flanges flat before you install. Cobra's tend to have a little weld seam on the flange that can cause a leak.

Hey Chris,

The Roadie I just bought has the Speedster slashdowns. I put Cobra Speedster Longs on my V-Star 1100 2 years ago. I chose them after some research that led me to believe the powerport (crossover) in the speedsters gave a similar power gain to the highest performing 2 into 1s. I don't like the sound of the 2 into 1's, but wanted the performance. I was very pleased with the sound once I put them on the bike. They get really loud when you lay into them, but are tolerable at normal highway cruising speeds. I also love the low clean tone of the pipes. To me, some of the louder pipes are tinny sounding. So when I started looking for a used Roadstar I looked for one with Cobra Speedsters on it. I finally found one. Everyone in the STAR group I ride with has complimented the sound.

The Lo-boys are a little louder, but to me don't sound as good on the bike I know that has them.

One word of warning, If you are a big dude or ride agressively, you will scrape the Longs! It really upset me the first few times I scraped them, but I got used to it and you really can't notice even after Deal's Gap and Tail of the Dragon, unless you look underneath.

In summary BUY THE SPEEDSTERS, you won't regret it!

i have to agree with both cruiserbob & greatpumpkin...i also have the speedster longs (well i did) and they are tolerable at cruisin speeds, but loud enough when romped on. the 2 into 1 performance gain by the power port is one of the reasons i bought these pipes, and you still the get the 2 pipe look.

i love the speedsters man. they look awesome...low, long and sleek!!

I have the loboy shotguns...the sound is terrific...the bonus is you can get to the transfer case hole without moving the pipes (something to consider with any aftermarket pipes)...my only downside issue is the space between the pipes and the bags is a bit bigger and takes some getting used to

Thanks for the feedback folks, do you have any ideas on the relative volume between the two. I'm not looking for drag pipes but just a reasonable increase on the sound of the stock pipes.
