45 ACP 5 Years, 11 Months ago
I'm safe here. I have an 06 so I can't be a Giunea pig. I've seen where people are using 45 ACP cases for AIS plugs. First question is, don't you worry about the primer popping out or coming loose? Second question is a thought I had.

The 45 ACP dimensions are:
Case mouth - .473
Case base - .476 (Right above the extractor groove.)
Rim - 480

I was thinking of the 45 colt case:
Case mouth - .480
Case base - .480
Rim - .512

So if the ACP case goes in all the way to the rim which is .480 then wouldn't it be a better seal if you used a 45 colt case which is .480 the entire lenth and has a rim bigger than the hole. Of course you would have to cut the 45 colt case down(maybe). I don't know how thick the walls are. Has anyone tried it?

You're supposed to use spent shells.

I hope no one has installed cases with unfired primers But fired cases still have the spent primer in them. If you don't have a primer in there you would have a leak through the flash hole.

Actually a pretty good idea...cut the case down, punch out the primer and then seal it with high temp silicon (if it exists) or maybe solder (will look like a primer to maintain the theme)...

Be curious to know if it works

Regards, Ted

funny, but i have a bunch of spent .38 cases that a member of the guardia civil gave me.

i've used them in a.s.i. pipes on a few bikes because they enter well and seal nice.

Educate me

I have some spent brass 9 mm casings that I used to make 'dummies'. They don't have any 'holes' in them.

Try a search on the R* Riders Forum. I know periodically then talk about using casing as AIS plugs.

Can go out and just buy alot of stuff that will "work". But what's wrong with being a little creative or trying something just for the hell of it? Like figuring out a new way to adjust the PMS

By the way how are you coming with that? Think i'm gonna need it.

Hey Doc

There has to be a hole in the bottom of the primer pocket. Otherwise the flame from the primer couldn't get to the powder.

I get that but this the part I didn't get "But fired cases still have the spent primer in them. If you don't have a primer in there you would have a leak through the flash hole."

Why would you still have primer after firing? Would not the explosion from the powder clean out the casing?

And I keep re-reading the second sentance but it still doesn't make sense to me.
