Here in Colorado it only applies to the Denver city limits. The basic idea of the law is that you have to have the factory exhaust on your bike. There is a stamp on the factory pipe that certifies it meets EPA regs for sound if it isn't there you'll get a ticket.

It is because downtown businesses were losing customers because idiots would rev the crap out of their open exhaust, and in the concrete canyons of downtown it would reverberate through the streets. I agreed that this sucked.

In application of the law though as long as you're not an idiot and rap the bike up where people are enjoying their lunch, you should be fine. Remeber a lot of cops ride cruisers too, at least they do out here, don't be a jerk and life is good.

It sucks that you had a neighbor turn you in, I bet his ancestors turned in people to the Nazis too.

Colonel , if your Baffles are repackable (some are , others not) , repack them first before the test. My V&H propipe has a repackable , and I believe the longshots are repackable. If it were me , I'd repack Now , and just ease out of your neighborhood/community. Someone close to you has definitely gotten their underwear in a wad over your pipes. A repack (and keeping a regular ear out for it when it needs a repack), might be enough to get them off your back. Packing material is available at bike shops (I use FMF four stroke repack , very dense).

benefits of repacking: quieter , more bottom end power (slightly), neighbors are happier. BB

How often do you repack your propipe BB?

we have noise laws here in alabama, if the police can here your radio 50 ft, from your car they will give you a warning, but i pass the police station every time i come to work with v&h longshots and when i get next to the station i gas it hard & loud for the hell of it
the police chief really likes the sound, but i have not got a ticket,

Does V & H make a quiet baffle for the propipe like they do for the long shots?

I don't think so. Do you find it loud? Try a repack. I use FMF four stroke repack , available at any shop that sells dirt bike stuff. It would be very easy to modify the baffle if you needed to, but I would repack first and see if the results were what you (or the Mrs.) were looking for. BB

I'm still considering a repack, I might try it this week to take the edge off. I have noticed people in my group rides fall back from me. they all claim its pretty loud. Unless I have the full face helmet on I dont notice it being loud.
