Wide tire,??? 4 Years, 2 Months ago
I want a 200 on the back. I seen kits for 240 and bigger.
there is in the tech area on mounting a 180. what would i need to do for a 200. the 240 is aliitle much more for looks. a 200 would handle better i think and give it that fat tire look. plus the tires are cheaper. since im running a new 17" rear rim. same size as a ZX12 rim but spoked with stock hub. a 180 fits and a can go to a 230. but a 200 i think would be just right. this would go great with my new 130/70-18 front tire and wheel setup.
I want to make the bike look stock the front fits great no mods fits close to the fender. the rear i think it will rub even with trimming like for the 180. any ideas. if i need to get another fender so i can widen my fender ok. that would mean a wider subframe also right. as you can tell not a pro bike builder i can make them go fast but building it from step one is not my cup of tea. also with my new air ride i think i can make it look like a real good low budget hotrod muscle bike.

The fender will easily fit a 200 but you need to do a lot of grinding on the subframe and brake stay to get the 200 in there. It's better to relocate the stay and remake a custom sub that's thinner.

Where does the ZX12 rim come into play? If your running a 6 x 17 rim with a R* hub on the back then that should be good with a 200/50 tire.

i used the ZX12 rim size. cause the zx12 comes stock with a 200/50 on the rear. the size and type im using is the metzeler ME880 210/50-17 rear ME880 130/70-18 front.
figure this would be a good set for cruising and hot roding the streets. looking for more rubber on the ground and a better look. should look great, was gona get mag rims but wanted to stay on old school look with spoke rims.

Next is to rake it out, and get fork extenders to keep it handling great.

Sounds like man with a plan.

The 210/50-17 should put you to stock specs so it won't affect the speedo/odo.

Re:Wide tire,??? 4 Years, 2 Months ago
thats what i figured, my next thing is how do i get more speed out of the roadie. Not bottom end light to light speed. lower the rpms in top gear to get a little bit more out of it. when i had a suzuki VZ800 murader, i went one up on the front and down on on the rear sprockets. it lowerd my cruising rpms, and the type of nut i am i was able to pin the speedo at 120mph on that little 800. Used to ride hard on sport bikes, since i got the roadie cant afford another bike to go stupied fast on. lol. looking for nice cruising rpms, and be able to run the highways at a nice pace with out reving it out in top gear. any ideas, is there a smaller rear pully or bigger front pulley that we can use.

For the front pulley you can't go higher than a 33 tooth.

For the rear you can't get different R* pulleys so check out what HD has to offer ..... some will fit without too much coaxing ... try the Softail 95-99 65 tooth.

ok so SOME HD pulleys will work. you so 95 -99 soft tail.
65 tooth. ok I'll look into that. started trimming my subframe down. gona have to cut out and reweld a section in order to hold a passanger.

I know this has been talked about before but I can't find it anywhere . What is the biggest rear tire I can use without any "mods", and will this effect the handling with a stock sized front tire?

Going beyond a 160 on a stock rim has no benefits. A 180 will not look appreciably wider than a 160 on the stock rim.

Ya .... once you start working on it you'll see that you can 'streamline' the subframe but make is as strong as stock.

You realize of course that with the stock fender you don't get to see much of the 'benefits' of a 210.
