Backfire 3 Years, 10 Months ago

Running the stock exhaust and always had a muffled backfire on decel. Did a stage 2 to the stock exhaust last night..........finished up this morning before a 200+ mile today (great ride).
Stage 2 gave me the sound that I was looking for until I decide what pipes to get, but the popping I had before is now an annoying backfire every time I let off the throttle. For the record, no carb work done so far, stock breather, AIS disabled (waiting on the plug kit before I fully remove the AIS), no other mods.
I am planning on getting the BAK, PMS thumb screw and porting the manifold, but am looking for help to get rid of the backfire now.
Any suggestions?

ultrastar: Is anyone planing on going to Star Days this year? its in Reno NV this year thats only about a 5 hour ride for me the last one I went to was in CO. a 2 day ride riding 80 + and 14 hour days
