Re:How Dare you 2 Years, 5 Months ago
I had a very positive experiance at one Harley dealers here in Phx . I was dropping a buddy off for some service work on his Buell . One the service writers asked if I had a bike ? We got talking about my roadie that I'm building , Next thing I know I was bringing up pics on their computer .
I guess that there is a light at the end of the tunnel . And more and more motorcycle enthusiasts not just stuck to one Brand or label.
WOW what a concept ...Can it be true???
Not that I'm perfect I'd rather push my DODGE than drive a Ford or a Chevy..
Later Greg

I brought my 06 Silverado home and parked it in the
driveway and two of my neighbors, both Harley nuts, came out
and was looking it over and said. Looks good, but you
need some new pipes and Highway Bars and your good to go.
Then the invited me to go riding with them the following
weekend.

I have a good friend who drives a Harley - a real nice one too. We give each other a hard time (all the time) about the other guys brand. Whenever we stop I always look for an oil spot on the asphalt and then park on it. One time we went for a quick run and hit the highway for little 85mph action. When we got to his house I commented "That was nice but I would have like to shift past third".

Finally - no come back!

I get it all the time from a lot of ignorant people. I am not a BIKER I am a motorcycle enthusiest and could care less where it is made if they made a good reliable, good looking and affordable bike on mars I would have one. I have owned over 35 motorcycles over the years all brands even H-D. Non hold a candle to the Roadstar. Mine is custom and I get alot of bikers that think it is a harley its really fun to see their reactoins when I tell them its a YAMAHA.

Same as most here. Every time I got that comment was from non-riders. Some have told their friends that my bike is a HD wannabe. I just laugh and say I will park my Roadie up to any HD and we'll see which one folks look at, then we'll go for a spin and see what the HD rider thinks of my pipes as he will be stuck behind them. All in good fun.... of course!

The only reason I would see myself buying a HD would be for the sound. I just love how they sound with deep sounding pipes on them. Then I would have to strecth it a bit, make the fuel tank bigger and move the pegs and handlebars way up. I rode a couple of HDs in the last year and felt like a giant on them. For reference, I'm 6' tall, 235lbs.

Last thing... I never liked decals and cheep plastic badges on bikes, so I removed the Yamaha logos from the rear fender and side covers. I also install Baron's V98 cam cover because I couldn't put the logo on my air kit (went with Maxair). However, I kept the one on the left side of the bike on and the tank emblems just so everyone can see it is a Yamaha Roadstar. I'm seriously thinking about a custom paint job... just have to find "THE ONE", and it will probably have something that says "Roadstar" on the tank.

Ride what you like.... for me, it happens to be the Roadie!

Lager,

I don't know if you saw a post I made earlier or not. Last Saturday I was riding with a bunch of guys who had Harleys and they all wanted to run by a large local dealership that was having a "Customer Appreciation Day". I went with them and as I was parking my bike (2005 RS Silverado), a guy came running across the parking lot with the biggest grin on his face and said, "Heritage Softail Classic, isn't it?! I'd recognize that sound anywhere!" You should have seen his jaw drop when I pointed at the Yamaha emblem on the rear fender! He was a good sport, though. We both had a good laugh about it.

Re:How Dare you 2 Years, 4 Months ago
I'd like to weigh in on this topic....
I owned a few HD's in my day but was converted to the "Star Line" after testing out a Royal Star. so for the last 9 years I have constantly been bombarded with the following:

"How come you didn't get another Harley?"

"Oh well you'll get a Harley after you out-grow that bike."

"why dont you get a [real bike]!"

"Hey thats a nice bike". I say, "Yea its a Yamaha" They Walk away and dont give it a second look.

And the best one: "Hey what year harley is that?"

Now I have to say I agree with all the previous other posters, and yes "Other peoples thoughts of me in fact are None of My Business" I wont waste my time or integrety trying to get someone to think differently about me. Only I will say that most of the NEGATIVE comments I get about the HD vs Yam topic come from guys who DON'T Even own a Bike!!!!!

SO MY LINE IS

"I'd own a Harley But I cant afford all the Tee-Shirts!"

I get a real kick out some folks. Couple of weeks ago took my 3 yr old daughter Jess on my 05 Roadie through the local Cremona parade. Lotsa people yelled out, "Aaaaaaaw, ...Look at the cute little HARLEY rider on the back of that HARLEY." The bike says YAMAHA in bright chrome all over it! Most people around here don't care what it says, ANY big shiny bike is a "HARLEY" to them.

Re:How Dare You 1 Year, 10 Months ago
Last time someone looked at my bike and said I was a "wannabe" I replied-"All I wannabe is riding". The last Harley I owned I kept for 10 months and it was in the shop for 4 of those. This was a long time ago but left a very bitter taste in my mouth. Now with kids, mortgage, wife, etc. my riding time is not as plentiful as it used to be, neither is my bank account. When it's time to ride I just want to step into the garage, pull the choke and start the bike and KNOW it will start. And the $10,000 I saved by not buying a Heritage Softail paid for half my cabin on my land.
Don't get me wrong, newer Harley's are better than the one I had, but not 10k better than my R*. In fact, the R* is hands down a beter mechanical beast, more power, more comfy, bigger. Ride what you like, but at 50 years old with 35 years of riding and countless miles and bikes under me, DO NOT treat me like a rookie, as the Harley boys would do every time I'd bring my bike into them. And Do NOT give me s#&t for what I ride. It was a wise choice and I am VERY happy with it.

Post edited by: thebru, at: 2007/01/14 18:51
