If you look at the bottom of the brass case you will see a round silver (usually, Remington might be brass colored))disc in the center. That's the primer. If you saw a primer out of the case you would see it's a small "cup". The cup is filled with an explosive mixture. When the hammer hit's the primer it sets off the mixture and the flame goes thropugh the flash hole and ignites the powder. So after firing the primer "cup"is still there. It won't look any different except for a mark where the hammer hit it. If you were going to reload the cartridge one of the steps is to punch out the old primer and seat a new one. So the primer isn't part of the case and can come out.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2006/06/16 09:11

Please let us know if this works out Musky.

I thought this was only applicable to 03 and earlier.

The AIS kist for 04 and later are plates rather than plugs. Also, 04 and later have the ports in different places than the earlier models, that are hidden behind the fuel pump assembly.

Hey GRAM

I was asking about 03 and back. After reading that some people have used permatex and such to "glue" the 45 ACP cases in I was wondering if anyone had tried the 45 colt. And I was curious if they left the primer in or filled the hole with something else. Just asking and learning. I've already put the plates on mine.

Hey vegas

That was my first question. Having them pop out in the middle of nowhere would worry me too.

TMK, there's nothing like strappin on the heat, grabbin a brew, hoppin on my hog, tearing down mainstreet, and scaring the hell out of the citizens on my way to the tat parlor to pick up my old lady. That's what us biker types do.

Got an answer on using 45 colt cases. They work, so if you have the older R* and want a different look when you pull your AIS you can try those cases. I would cut them down to 45 ACP lenth which is .898. If you don't want brass cases CCI makes Blazer ammo which is loaded in alumminum cases. Might not find much laying around the range though.

If you want to give it a try but don't have the cases, drop me an e-mail with a street address and I'll send you a few empty .45 Colt cases for the cost of the postage. As a reformed cowboy action shooter I've got a few empty cases laying around.
