I'm bored.... oil filter question 8 Months ago
I guess first of all why do we care more than we do for our cars!!! But for some reason I do!
Anyway my question: How much does the PSI Setting on the By-pass valve matter
or does it. I have read all the filter study links. I was thinking about using the Wix 51358 or Napa 1358 over the Mobil 1-110 on my Roadstar just because the PSI is lower. Also I have a Cub Cadet riding mower and they want $18 for an oil filter.... no way. Anyway all this got me to reading and studying about oil flters and doing the cross references but noticed the PSI is higher on car filters.. Anyone know the PSI on the Roadstar OEM filter? ...Thoughts??

To my understanding the bypass that is IN the oil filter is only there to allow the oil pressure to overcome it IF the filter media is stopped up and oil can't flow through it. Personally, I don't think any of us would let our filter get stopped up to the point that the internal filter bypass would ever come into effect.
I'm actually using a Nissan filter on my Roadie. (part# 15208-65F0C) I've been a Nissan parts guy since the early '80's and have had a few filters apart. I don't have to guess about the quality of a Nissan filter just like I don't have to guess how totally cheap a FRAM filter is. LOL

I started thinking I would change my oil again before the trip to Star days coming up and happened to get an email from JC Whitney tonight. This is the link to their K&N Chrome oil filter that sells for $14.99 for the R*. I figure K&N, $15.00 and functional chrome...whats not to like!!!
