1st to 2nd missed shift 4 Years, 1 Month ago
I have been riding my almost completed bobber for about a month now and am starting to feel comfortable with the ape hangers, foot clutch and hand shift. Went riding Thursday night to our local "bike night" at the Kentucky River. On the way home a couple of buddies and I had a spirited take off from two or three stop lights, the first time I had really pushed the bike since the bobber change. Both times I missed from 1st to 2nd. The second time I was really trying to make sure the shift was completed before letting out the clutch. I even noticed the neutral light came on and went off before I let the clutch out. Still missed the shift.

I don't think I had the problem before the bobber change. Have other people had this problem? Any suggestions?

Sorry I noticed not much response to jockey shift questions
I don't have any help either, I've only had bikes for about 5 years so I'm still learning.
I do remember a few years back I was at a Pig Roast and a number of Bikers were there, we watched as they took turns trying to ride one guys old Harley with the foot clutch it was pretty funny to watch, and then he would jump on it and ride so nice
Good luck that's a nice looking scoot
Maybe you'll just have to ride it hard more often

I would check your linkage to the shifter. If the push/pull is not straight and it gets off a little it will not throw the arm far enough to make the shift. I have not seen any pictures of your linkage so it's hard to imagine what the problem could be. But I can say this I would bet on it being in the linkage.

There is no linkage. The shifter shaft connects directly to the shaft coming out of the transmission. Shifting in all other gears is ok. One of my buddies said his old 650 Yamaha had the same problem when shifting at high RPMs. But it is probably related to the shifter shaft because I didn't have the problem before.

I do that quite a bit. I would shift like normal, but every now and then it will just go to neutral and I am there reving up the motor looking like a goober. I have to make sure that I shift a little harder going from first to second.
