Real soup cans are too thin and it will sound 'tinny'.

Try using those piece of exhaust pipe you can buy at the auto store. With various reducers you can fabricate a baffle. Make sure you have diverter in the direct line of exhaust. This will help cut down on the noise.

Sounds like you've had experience with those soup cans Doc...
I will see what I can find at Crap'n'Tire tomorrow for exhaust reducers etc.
I just want to cut the noise without causing any backpressure.
Thanks for the advice Doc! -SM

I remember seeing something in a bike mag (I think) about exhaust systems with on-the-fly adjustment. Something or other where a switch or maybe cable lets you go from quiet to rumbly and back.

I'll nose around and see what I can find.

the Propipe can purr like a kitten, but if you crack it... car alarm city. I am growing to really like mine. I saw one of those electronic switch exhaust mounted on Metric revolution. Looked pretty cool. But expensive.

Re:exhaust 4 Years, 1 Month ago
Thanks for the info Guys.
I just got back in from a quick ride, I drilled about ten 3/8" holes in each of two Campbells' soup tins and put them in the Stage 3'd stock pipes and went for a ride. It sounds pretty good actually, not too loud when cruising, and still pretty snappy when you get on it accelerating hard.
I would not want it any quieter than this for sure, but it is definitely a nice deep rumble instead of an annoying roar.
Now I just have to come up with something that is more "permanent and worthy" than the soup tins...
that still sounds about the same level or maybe a "tad" louder than with the soup tins in there.

Pman the HK's are loud I had a set of HK K2's and I made a set of 4 baffles for them trying to get the sound I wanted. They tend to have sort of cracking sound to them that is harsh. I now have Bub Stubbies and you don't want them too they are loud. Like Doc said the stock are about as good as you can get in the noise area.

I recently put on the HK's. They are loud, but I idled away from a friends on Sunday morning and he didn't even knew that I had left. They can definitely set off car alarms, however if you take your time and gear down, they are quiet enough to make a semi-quiet getaway from the neighborhood.
With that said, I also took a 1200 mile 3 day road trip, and I can see where a set of duals would be nice to have. The steady 'helicopter' at cruise speed does leave your right ear a little dull for a while after shutting down.
