Check your lower belt guard ... should be able to see the belt within the cut out... if your belt is loose it's a easy job to tighten up.

for the Chrip: if it seems to happen at only a particular engine rev, I had that, and in my case it turned out to be the rear tank mount. At a particular RPM the tank would resonate and the mount that is just in front of the seat is metal on metal. I put in a couple nylon washers to resolve it.

It was a loud chirp too, mine was heard at around 120 km/hour!!

and while adjusting the belt tension: make sure you dont jam your thumb between the rotating tire and the fender. I did that and ripped some tendons. Now you all know I'm retarded.
