The first time you pull it off it takes longer because you are learning where everything is and you aren't real sure of what your doing. Once you get into jetting you can have that puppy off in a few minutes if you need to. It isn't hard though. Yes. Once you get the plug out you can tweak the PMs with the carb on the bike. I would suggest getting 4 Allen head float bowl screws before you take the carb off. Then you can put them in while you have it off. If you have those in the bowl you can do an entire rejet with the carb on the bike.

Ummm, should I go ahead and do it now, or wait till a winter project. I just figured my mileage and this tims it was 36.9mpg.
Will I get a little better mileage by taking it easy and slowly accelerating up to 70, or get to 70 a little faster and then kick it in 5th.? Just wondering if my bad mileage could partly be of my riding style.

I would just go ahead and do it now. It's not a day long project. Couple hours for your first time should more than cover it.

Sounds like a combo issue to me...tweak the carb but also back it down a notch on the accel if you want better mpg...I ride relatively conservatively...last summer I did pipes, K&N air kit and filter and rejet...I used the 37.5 at first and my gas mileage dropped from 42-3 to 36-8...I re-installed the 35 and I just filled up today and got 45.13, on half and half one up and two up local riding...

Are you guys talking city or highway(or a combo) miles for your figures? I get much better milage on the interstate. I figured at my last fill I was getting 30mpg.

My figure, 45.13, was 99.9% local riding...I might have jumped one exit on I-95...I get about 50 on the road

When I do an mpg estimate it's based on my normal riding. Some city, some highway, some country roads. I don't change my riding habits for the mpg check because it wouldn't give me a realistic reading for my riding. I could run through a tank on a 2 lane road going 55 until the tank is empty and get better numbers but it wouldn't be a real number to me.
