Yeah moving on sounds like the answer. Since the insurance Co took care of the bike it sounds like you're only out your time & hassle. Hopefully very little actual money if any. It is amazing how a guy can profit like he did and can't take care of you w/ 10k for all you did for him.

So this guy lied to you about having an cycle endorsment. Why would you think he would "take care of you" after his settelment? He is a liar. His word means nothing. Just do the right thing like you did to help and like the Wise Biker Ted said, "Just move on"

Sounds like you have learned one of lifes hard lessons. You sound like someone I could call a friend. Stick with you values..they are correct. Move one and leave the baggage behide.

Yeah, let it go, giving him some sores would make you feel good while doing it, but it will lead to headaches afterwards.

Not trying to beat this subject to death but with a settlement like that he's got new problems coming down the rode and they're called "new friends". Payback of a sort I guess.

I understand been there too many times ,you are not really asking the guy at this point to buy the bike but to at least acknowledge what all you have done for him and that you were doing it as a friend. You deserve a little more than being avoided. All the money in the world can not fix the character defect he has. Laugh it off & be glad the insurance paid off.

You needed to use his truck so you could haul firewood. In exchange you let him use your bike. You have insurance. He wrecks the bike and you collect on the insurance. That's the end of the story isn't it? The settlement he got was for the injuries he sustained in the accident.

If you had wrecked his truck and his insurance paid him off would you expect him to be coming after you for more?

I might be way off here but it seems to me that the only thing this former friend owes you is maybe a dinner out or something because you were inconvenienced having to look for a new bike.

well kayakguy, its just the fact he said he would buy me a bike, but like everyones advice I am letting it go. but to let you know his injurys that payed him over $300,000 were a broken hand.

Here's the issue as it seems to me: I think the point here for Butter Bean is that the guy who wrecked the bike (that the insurance company repaired) said that if he won the suit that he'd purchase the guy a new bike, rather than have him have to "settle" for a wrecked bike that had been fixed. Seems like a nice thing to do considering he was the one who wrecked the bike. I'd have most likely made the same offer.

Yeah, the guy who wrecked the bike got hurt in the accident, and yeah the insurance company fixed the bike, but that doesn't mean that what was promised is now UN-promised.

In my book, if the guy who wrecked the bike had not made the promise there'd be no issue here. But he DID make the promise. If he'd changed his mind or if there wasn't enough $$ in the settlement after atty. fees, medical bills etc. to honor his promise the very least he should do would be to have the testicles to tell Butter Bean to his face. Rather he hides and avoids him so he doesn't have to face the consequences of his words.

Would I rather have a fixed bike than no bike, sure. Would I rather have a new bike than one that's been repaired after an accident, you bet. Who wouldn't?

If I were Butter Bean I'd be expecting my "friend" to make good on his word....and NOT after I have to remind him about it either.
