It was cool to find this forum!

Just bought a 2000 Silverado a few weeks ago, and its killing me, I cant ride it legally yet!

I'm military and have been overseas for the last 10 years, doing my last tour in the Navy in Maryland, and figured I have been wanting a bike again so long, jumped on the Road Star, it was a decent deal.

BUT, the previous owner had to take the plate, so I get to look at it in the garage until next week when I can get all my info together for the DMV to get it legal.

ARRRGGGGHHHHH!

As a former swab jocky I can relate. A couple of years ago I bought my '02 R* but it took a month to get the paperwork in order. I live out in the country so I did a small amount of back road scooten because I just couldn't leave it alone. There is only so much polishing a man can do.

Thanks!

Originally from Minnesota myself, up around Mora. Still have family there.

I looked for a forum becuase I was having a problem getting the seat off, but that is squared away now.

I am sure there will be questions, I appreciate the offer. Havent had a bike since I sold my Harley in '97 and my Vulcan in '99.

Have to get my land legs back on this big putt.

I snuck a putt or two down the backroads, as I live out in the sticks a bit, but theres a sheriff and a state trooper live down that road. Dont want to push it, ya know.

swab jockey-Ha! I like that. I am a "dirt sailor" myself, a Seabee.

18 years in, seems like I was in basic last week. Time goes quick.

Actually I do have a question, maybe some of you fine folks may have the answer too.

This bike has a rev limiter on it, I have read it cuts in at 4200 rpm.

Is that something Yamaha designed in for a break in phase? Can it be overridden?

I have ordered a repair manual for my bike, but havent received it yet.

Welcome to the Clinic.

You can buy a Revmaster or a Dyna 3000. Both will let you raise the rpms but the 3000 also allows you to change the timing to compensate for internal engine mods.

There's not much above 4200 so don't expect to much.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum.. I am new here myself!

The rev limiter is a stock item... not just for break-in. It can be defeated by adding an aftermarket unit like the Dyna 3000

http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=91&manufacturer_ID=275&product_ID=3669&model_ID=37

or the Dyno-Rev Master

http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=94175-5000

typically you wont really see much of a performance increase in just increasing your RPM limits... but with a pipe, air kit, ported manifold, etc... you can get some major power increases.. especially in the higher RPM range. On a stock bike.. you really dont have much power past 4200 RPM or so anyway.

Depends on what you want... ! This is my first cruiser.. and I am used to red-lining sportbikes at 12 to 14 k. I hit my rev limiter alot at first.. but getting used to it.

That is funny... I got my 06 R* the friday before Father's Day. The Dealer doesn't have temp tags,so I couldn't ride it that WHOLE WEEKEND. I must have put a whole can of lemon pledge on it. Then I had to wait almost a month for the MSF course after that so I could ride it on post. I might have snuck in a ride or 2 before the course though. Just finished the MSF ERC tuesday and passed with a minus 11. I can't ride it enough.
This forum is AWESOME!!!
