Lowering rear 5 Years, 9 Months ago
I am concedering lowering the rear of my O5 by 1" - 2" in. I have been told that this would help with the handling, and make the Bike feel less heavy. The Supension is currently completely stock.
Any feedback or opinions would be appreciated.

I've lowered a couple bike but I've always lowered the front and rear to keep the geometry of the bike close to stock. My opinion is if you lower just the rear you will change the trail and lose some slow speed handleing which is where the weight plays a factor. But I'm kinda picky about that. Other people do it and are just fine. You won't hurt anything or cause any saftey issues with just lowering the rear.

Lowered via the flip... LOVE IT! It feels like it just "squats" down during cornering! Not to mention the cool factor. Really haven't scraped much more than the boards.

I lowered my '02 and loved the feel and look it gave me. On the other hand, hard bumps caused me to bottom out both single and two up. I ran the pre-load up all the way but that didn't help much. I went to a Baron's spring for the rear end and that made it way better. No more bang on the bumps even with my wife on the back. Neither one of use is a "heavy" weight. I'm 180 and she is 130 (don't tell her I posted this or she would kill me)so if you go to the "flip" to lower the bike you might consider a stiffer spring in the back. I gotta say, our Roadstars are so much fun to mess with. Little tweaks here and there make our rides fit and handle better with so little effort.

Some of life's greatest pleasure seems to be enjoyed on the seat of my motorcycle.

Is this site a great place or what. Everyone has been so helpful. I used to ride alot 20 yrs ago, just returned to the passion last May. But now I get to show my lack of knowledge. What is the "Flip" and how would you lower the front?
Robert.

Look in the tech tips on this site for the flip. Scroll down quite a ways and you'll see it. I think it gives you a couple ways of doing it. There are also other ways to lower the rear. There's more than one way to lower the front also. I'm going to use the one from this link when I do it. http://www.baronscustom.com/html/search/index.html?category=PS
