been harley riding again... 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago

just been out for a blast on one of these...
2008 harley fat bob
and it was actually quite good!
twin floating discs with 4 pot calipers up front, so it stops pretty well. it seems to have a bit more get up and go than the other tc96 harleys i´ve ridden. could be down to the 2-into-1-into-2 exhaust with exup valve and different injection mapping. very comfortable ergonomics for someone large as myself. handling and the (agricultural) gearbox is normal modern harley fare, but we are not talking about a sportsbike here.
build quality seems excellent
as with all harleys though, its HIDEOUSLY overpriced. 20,000 euros cannot be justified IMO. harley owners will continue going on about it´s resale value and suchlikes, but i buy bikes to ride, and if i wanted an investment i´d buy shares.
i liked it, but not enough to be convinced to buy one

Think it would look better with some longer rolled fenders! I'm not a big fan of upsweep on the rear fender! Good looking bike though!

While we are confessing, I also took a Harley out last weekend. I rented a Street Glide and went out with a group of friends who all ride Harleys. I'm with erizo. Things I liked about it, things I didn't, but at the end of the day, I just can't see paying that much for a bike.

HOLY CATS! 20K Euo = $32700 good ol' American greenbacks! And, really, it looks like a beefed up H-D Dyna-Wide Glide... I like the twin headlights though...

I was at the Harley dealer last weekend. Some really nice new models with the usual outrageous price. And I don't buy the "Great Re-sale" line. I bought my R* for $10,700 OTD. The comparable Harley I wanted was $21,700 OTD. I keep my R* for 5 years I figure I get $7-8g for it. I keep the Harley for 5 yrs I figure I get $17-18g for it. The only diff I see here is I didn't break the bank to start. No debt, and plenty of money for those essential mods!

My wife actually told me I could buy a Harley.....IF I sold my bike and went without one for a few months to save up a good down payment. It's my wallet saying no way. (I think she was more comfortable on the Street Glide so that's why she said yes)

We got a smart crowd around here! I'm non-denominational when it comes to my bike interest......but my wallet isn't. BB

guys, I grew up riding HDs. Lots of fun but when I decided to actually buy my own I went R* for a reason. I could have spent the extra money and got a HD and actually the wife ( aka boss, family accountant, etc) told me to get whichever I liked best. She knew i would have whatever I chose for quite a while. When I made the comparison, ignoring the pricetag, I decided I liked the fit & finish & everything else on the R*. The only thing I don't necessarily like are the people that constantly call my R* it a HD. Or even those that ask "is that a HD".
