Heard alot about using WD40 to check for intake leaks. I have also read that for it to show all the leaks you would need to do the test under load. ie, riding the bike. That could be tricky . I have used starting fluid before and if I had a leak the rpms went up. This was with the bike at an idle. Any thoughts on this? Experience you have had? Am I wrong? Again

I would not spray WD40 while riding the bike.

You can do it at high idle.

One thing that screws some people up is that the bike is idling too low. It's best to jet and test for leaks at the recommended idle.

You can also use propane (unlit of course ) to check for leaks but I haven't tried it.

Hey Doc

So WD40 works OK as long as you have the idle up? Not questioning you, just confirming because I always have a can of WD around but rarley have starting fluid. Never heard of propane. WD slows the RPM down, Starting fluid raises it, What does propane do? Do you know you have a leak because your bike disappers Just kidding. Good tip on not lighting it before the test

I have only used the WD-40 test when the bike is stationary.. either sidestand, Jack or on a Dyno (for those under load tests). But it is a decent way to do a quick test for leaks.

Some guys don't like to use WD40 'cause it's messy.

Propane will increase revs .... and the bike "disappears" in a puff of smoke.
