It was cool to find this forum!

Just bought a 2000 Silverado a few weeks ago, and its killing me, I cant ride it legally yet!

I'm military and have been overseas for the last 10 years, doing my last tour in the Navy in Maryland, and figured I have been wanting a bike again so long, jumped on the Road Star, it was a decent deal.

BUT, the previous owner had to take the plate, so I get to look at it in the garage until next week when I can get all my info together for the DMV to get it legal.

ARRRGGGGHHHHH!

That is funny... I got my 06 R* the friday before Father's Day. The Dealer doesn't have temp tags,so I couldn't ride it that WHOLE WEEKEND. I must have put a whole can of lemon pledge on it. Then I had to wait almost a month for the MSF course after that so I could ride it on post. I might have snuck in a ride or 2 before the course though. Just finished the MSF ERC tuesday and passed with a minus 11. I can't ride it enough.
This forum is AWESOME!!!

MY ROADIE IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

I can completely understand your frustraton man! I had to wait 9 days before they took my '05 out of the crate, assembled, and I could go pick it up. It sucks lookin' at a new toy when you can't play with it. Although tempting to take her out I suppose? I couldn't get insurance for 2 whole days after (weekend.) !!
...Better leave Roadie in the garage and drool over her rather than ride her illegally, some nasty cop'll be waitin' for ya 'round some corner Then you've gotta longer wait gettin' things sorted out at the impound. Stay patient Bro!!!

Any of you guys notice these bikes have a very shallow cornering?

I took my bike on a back road putt yesterday, she scrapes the floorboard(I think) real quick.

Any suggestions?

You musta been a sport bike rider.

I guess you won't be lowering the bike

I had the same problem until I raised the front. I can still scrape the pegs but I have to get it over much further that I did when it was stock.

23 inch wheels will fix you right up They put the replaceable skid pads on the floorboards for a reason. Nature of the beast. I've heard that forward controls help alot. When I put my floorboard ext's on it helped but not much.

Add on - If you got floorboard ext's like mine but didn't tilt the back down you would probably have a more meaningful gain. I don't know how comfortable they would be. I tilterd mine when i put them on.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2006/08/06 12:04

Snebarekim,

The Roadstar amazes me with it willingness and stability to corner hard. This is my first cruiser.. and I have always ridden sportbikes. I bought this to slow me down in the canyons... as I like speed way too much, and there is way too much traffic around anymore. I also wanted something I could ride all day without hating it at the end of the day.

The Roadie tends to hunker down a bit when you corner them hard.. and that can be improved substantially by throwing in some aftemarket springs, front and rear. I used the Progressive springs.. and it made a big difference.. no wallowing, increased ground clearance and stability, and you can brake later into the corner without it acting up. Forward controls also increase your lean clearance as was mentioned.

I would love to lower mine.. for the looks. But just cant deal with losing ground clearance. I may have to go with one of the air shock systems someday... and have the best of both worlds.

Glad you are enjoying your bike....
