Crankcase breather issue 5 Years, 6 Months ago
|
|
OK so I put my snazzy BAK on but now I've got oil spitting out all over my pipes through the filter, I've been living with this for awhile because at first I thought it was the filter and it just had too much lube on it, Now I'm positive this is not the case.
I looked in tech tips and saw the procedure to rerout the breather into another filter and attach it to the rear pegs, I'm not a big fan of this look, is there any other way to prevent my bike from spitting up all over the pipes? It's sort of embarassing and I'm positive it's not good for the bike. The bike is all torn down right now because its' in paint (as soon as it's done I can't wait to post pics ) and I'd like to get this done now. Is the tech tip procedure with the second filter my only option to prevent this? Any help is always appreciated

If you go to the RSR site I think they have been routing it differently so it doesn't show. I think Alex (Dragger seats)has his done that way so he can tell you more about it. Did you try lowering your oil level? Was the hose kinked at all?

Soma,
Get a small plastic tube the same diameter as the inside of the fitting on the back of the BAK. Make it long enough that you can thread it inside the BAK so that it reaches the throat of the BAK, where the carb intake is.
Then glue the plastic tube to the inside of the BAK so that it does not move and get sucked into the carb.
Im this way, with the end of the tube close to the carb throat, the oil will be drawn into the carb by suction rather that leaking outside the BAK and on you pipes.

Hey Soma,
What Doc said would probably be your cleanest option. However you could take a look at the photo section on my site you can just barely see where I have mine mounted. (First pic top left) It's mounted to where my rear horn used to be. My horns are mounted under my gas tank. Just another option!

My oil level was right where it should be. The kinked hose really isn't kinked all that much. I'm thinking it "may" have had something to do with that heat we were experiencing. This has never happened before so I'm just going to keep an eye on it and see if the problem repeats.
(For all do don't know what I'm talking about, I had engine oil coming out my breather filter. Only a couple drips, but still... Never seen that before.)

I recently installed a Krankvent kit along with a Kuryakin chrome crank
case breather.I mounted it to the bottom stock air box mount left over after
I went to my Thunder Mfg. teardrop.Looks good and filled up the gap!

VegasDave,
How do you like the KrankVent? I have been considering one also. They make a lot of claims for it that seem reasonable... did you notice anything special?

Doc,
Ok I'm slightly confused, so with your setup, the extra oil will be sucked back in through the intake of the carb into the combustion chamber? I haven't gone down to my bike yet to see what you're talking about so mabye I'm just misunderstanding you.
What kind of "plastic tube" do you refer to, like vacuum hose? or something rigid, any suggestions on what type I could purchase, and what kind of glue? Like RTV or superglue?
Thanks for answering all my questions Doc I might go ahead and just do an external breather but this option at least seems cleaner cheaper and quicker, so I might do it. In what way do you have yours routed on your bike Doc? is it in this manner? thanks again!
