New to The Clinic 5 Years, 9 Months ago
Hello, I would like to introduce myself to the clinic.

I Just purchased a 2003 Limited Editions Road Star Silverado. It only has 4100 miles on it and looks new no stratches or anything.. I love it so far. I traded in my 650 Silverado in on it.. Only problem is getting the dang seat off.. They got it off at the dealer and had alittle trouble but it wasn't a Yamaha dealer so I figure he didn't know what he was doing.. Now I can't get the dang thing off at all. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

I Live in Bikers heaven. North Ga moutains are killer.

Hope everone has a safe and fun ride..

Hello James,

Welcome to the Clinic.. I am fairly new here myself! Lots of good people and knowledge!

I had the same problem at first on my Roadie... put the key in the ignition without pushing it down and then push down on the front of the seat with your other hand, while turning the key to the Unlock position. The trick is not pushing the key down. Pushing on the front of the seat seems to relieve some of the tension and makes it easier to unlock.

Let us know how it goes...

Thanks I tried what you said. I know I am probably doing something wrong,,lol.. But it still isn't working. I think the key is my problem does it make a clicking sound or any thing. I can move the front of the seat and its like its still in the locked position. I am going to have her put in the shop next week for sevice and some upgrades maybe they can show me what I am doing wrong. The reason I want the seat off is to check the oil level I have some clicking in the valves and I just want to make sure the oil is ok..

Thanks again

Welcome aboard James! Sounds like you are doing it right... I've heard of other folks having issues with that stupid latchy deal. Someone said to spray WD-40 into the ingnitian hole and let it sit for a few hours. Never tried it, but it's worked for some.

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum James. When I had my stock seat on I had to turn the key and give the front of my seat a good smack to get it to pop. I finally sprayed the lock mech under the seat with WD while I had the seat off and it worked good after that. You can try sitting in the seat and wiggleing around while you turn the key.
