I want to do the stock exhaust mods on my friend's bike, but am having a real hard time understanding the steps. At Stage 1, cutting the cone off.....Does this mean at the front of the mufflers where they attach to the header pipe, or the tapered tip at the ends? Am I going to expose the internals when I do this, or will the pipes still look complete? It would really be cool if someone had a pic of their stock pipes after doing the mods to look at for reference.

In the tech tips they explain 1,2, and 3 with a pic at the bottom. Don't know if you looked there yet but it might help you.

Musky,

Yes I did look at that article in the tech tips and saw the picture. It's still hard for me to follow. I need more of a step-by-step format. If it were my own set of pipes, I'd be more adventurous. However, since they are not, I want to REALLY know what I'm doing before I start.

I just did it the Stage 1. Heres how....

cut the cone in the rear of the pipe where it meets the exhaust outlet pipe (the small end of the cone). stick your finger in there and you will feel some welds. holding the cone to the pipe.. remove the weld.. or do like I did and just cut all of the way around just before the pipe. Once the cut is made.. just drill a hole in the cone somewhere and put a screw in.. grab the screw with vise Grips and twist and yank.. out come the cones... Pic Below

Thanks for the pics Charlie.

I found that with just holes I would get a 'fluttering' sound on decel. I was able to get rid of the sound by drilling larger holes; ones that spanned from the inside to the outside pipe. I then joined all the holes and made then into two slots so that the inside pipe was held to the outside pipe with two small pieces of metal. Davehrn's is similar but he has 4 slots.

Hey Doc...

I considered that.. but then I went and ordered a Cobra 2 to 1 Power Pro HP for the bike. I had been communicating with ODO on RSR.. and decided to go whole hog. Not supposed to be too loud (my main complaint with a lot of pipes.. and the 2 to 1 still leaves good torque. Read some good reviews of the pipe.

Credit card is cringing! ~
