back in the shop again!!! 5 Years, 9 Months ago
i dont know guys but this shit is getting old. for the first 5 miles out each time morning or afternoon the bike just spudders and pops and seems to be running on one cyl, i used to think that it was the rear cyl.cutting out but now i know its the front cyl. thats the culpret. also my bike wont run right without at least a 1/4 of a bottle of ring free in the tank. i know thats to much. but the bike runs perfect with it in the tank and like crap without it.

just in case you want to know the specs: 1- stock exhaust gutted completly before gutting the exhaust. 2- you could smell raw fuel coming from the exh. with the bike running even after it was hot/ but now the exhaust smells clean. 3- the crank case breather bypassed to under the frame and back of the stock air box pluged and clamped. 4- stock air cleaner replaced due to oil residue before. 5- all four spark plugs changed to champion 840. 6- ais gone and capped and plugged of manifold and tested for leaks with wd-40. 7- valves readjusted 2 times. 8- running midgrade fuel/high test didn't help. 9- swapped coils temporarily one @ a time on both cyl's to see how good she ran on each cyl. seems to be the same. 10- carb. stock and evey thing else also.

now here the interesting part: after i rode for 45miles staight. i got off the bike @ the house with the bike idling and put my hand infront of the front cyl. and the air was cool not even warm. now i put my hand in front on the rear cyl. and about burned the freaking skin off of my hand. thats messed up.

hi dozer,...sounds like the first cylinder is not fireing,...!

remove the spark plug cables of the first cylinder !then start the bike,...normally she will run on one cylinder ! maybe its an electronical prob ?? check the CDI an all conections !

the carb is not the problem ! when the carb were the problem she won´t run on the second cylinder either ! so i would check all the ignition stuff on the first cylinder,..! Do you have an owners manual ?

if you can´t find the mistake , get her to your local yam-dealer ! they will know what to do ! they also have the posibility to connect the bike to the computer and check all electronical systems !

hope i could help
greetz from germany

I'm a little confused (Normal for me ). You say you're always running Ring free in the tank because your bike runs perfect with it but at the same time you are having problems with you bike only running on 1 cyl. Does it only run on 1 cyl when you don't put the ring free in the tank?

guys: im sorry for all of the confusion: i can talk well, but when it come to typing im a dumb ass.
i was tring to get everything in as short as possible before.
heres the deal: if i run ring free in the bike i have no problems (both cyl.s fire.)
but if i dont use ring free than the bike runs on only one cyl. or barly fires on one cyl.
i have already tried the one cyl. at a time coil cut out and both will fire one at a time and that is what is confusing the hell out of me.

Hey dozer

No need to apologize. Happens to me all the time . I have to say that I thought I was the only one that got these weird problems. Have you tried gas from a different station? Changed plugs? Maybe try a different brand of plugs. I haven't read to many good things about Champion. I don't know

Go to this site and you can get a list of plugs. http://weislake.com/sig/

Add on - I was looking at the list and your plugs don't match what's on the site. Maybe your plugs are to cool and the ring free keeps them from carboning up? Yeah, I know it's a stretch but when your drowning grab anything ya can

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2006/08/15 19:47

I might be stupid but it sounds like a sticking lifter. It happened on mine and it was very iritating. I had to argue with Yamaha and the dealer to get it fixed. They finally installed speedstar springs and honed out the thingamajig that the lifters go in. hope this helps. oh yeah mine would run good with ring free then start f-ing up again.
