I thought is was a great bike until I rode the R*. The 1100 I had a good bike to start on if your like me and not even start riding til your 40+ just because it is a lot lighter than the R*s. My 1100 ran like a spotted ape although on it I always felt like I really had to bear down and work with it to make it go. Just the higher rpms make you really were doing something. Been on the R* for about 2 years and could not go back but still think the 1100 v star is a good bike just not for long trips. I also looked at HD's and the Kawasaki Nomad and actually was days away from cutting a check for the Nomad...Out of shear luck my neighbor had a 2000 Roadstar Silverado with 17000 miles and got a job transfer and had to get rid of the RS...he gave me a deal I could not refuse. He lowered the chassis so I'm much more comfortable on the RS than I thought I would be...plus when I ride two up with my wife its a great ride, plenty of power, nice feel, actually more nimble that I would have ever thought.
