I knew that would get your attention
Does anyone know what material is used on the backs and
bottoms of the Silverado Saddlebags? It looks like a cross
of plastic and fiber. I would think that plastic would melt
being that close to exhaust pipes, and it would need to be
waterproof.
Thanks
Denny

Thanks Pop Rivet
Do you have any Idea as to where to get
this type of plastic in sheets say 3'X 4'
or 4' X 4'? Do ya think that a Co. that
sells plexiglass would carry this product.
I realize that I would have to cover it in
leather myself.
Thanks
Denny

Nope, I'm planning on using a hole saw like for doornobs
to cut the raised part of the back where the bolt holes
to the mount are. then I plan on glueing and popriveting
(any relation?) newpieces to the back to cover the holes
and to insure that the back is rigid and flat. Then I'm
going to try to put Easy Brackets on. Dave Havers of Easy
Brackets said you could not use them on Silverado Stock
Bags because the backs were not flat on them. Hopefully
this will solve my problems. What do you think?

Try a plastic supply they should have Kydex. This is the high tech/low drag stuff that the newer holsters are made out of. Tough stuff.
As long as it doesn't get too hot (kydex is thermoformed at 325-390 degrees F) it should work fine. Plus, you have the added benefit of being able to heat it with a heat gun and form it to the shape you want before you install it.

Here is an internet supplier who does retail sales of kydex.
http://interstateplastics.reachlocal.net/materials/detail.aspx?ID=Kydex-Ca2009

Also do a gogle search on "forming kydex" or just "kydex" and you'll get more information than you need on the stuff.
