I have a sad story of waste... Bought my 99 new in 98, it has 2,451 miles on it. Still beautiful though.

I see that a lot of you have covered a lot of miles, how is the bike for having problems or other things come up in all the miles. Im looking for a bike that will last a long time with very little problems. I do not ride hard and stay after maintance.

R Rider,

I see there are some folks who ride even more than I do, but I do about 1,000 miles a month (22641 miles in 25 months). I have had no service issues so far, other than having to loosen the over-tightened drive belt when I got it from the dealer.

Mine's completely stock as far as performance stuff. The only thing that's been kind of a pain with putting on the miles is replacing the tires more often (3rd rear tire, 2nd front tire in 2 yrs). My new Dunlop CruiseMax goes on the rear Tuesday. I'm hoping it lasts more than the 7,300 miles I got out of the Metzler ME880 and somewhere close to the 15,000 miles I got out of the bad-riding OEM Bridgestone.

Yeah, went to work on Wed morning woke up Friday in hospital with morphine pump. No memory, but it was ruled a hit and run. Got smacked from behind and slid down the highway for a piece. Thankfully helmet saved my nogen and I'm too darned stubborn to quit riding.

Man that stinks. So it could have been a lot worse. My son just got hit recently sitting at a stop light by some girl talking on her cell phone and her foot slipped off the brake. He said it sure didn't feel like 3 mph. The difference in mass is well...massive. It broke something in his bike so it wouldn't start again, even at that speed even though it only hit the tire and did no other damage. It make me feel guilty because I'm the one who gave him the bike.
