Man, that sucks. Now you are going to be afraid to lean back on it, which defeats the whole darn purpose.

I'm having a day a little like that today. Wife got mad at her computer, disconnected it and replaced it with an old slower one. That frustrated her, so it hit the floor from about 6 feet. She also had a three day old laptop to replace her other laptop which she let a virus on, and it has Vista and about 1 meg of ram so it can't work, so she's taking that back. She gave her old laptop to her hairdresser's husband to fix and it came back with pirated windows so I had to rebuy that and reload everything twice. Plus the old fast computer she's mad at won't recognize my Maxtor external hard drive so I can't transfer her documents. And then there are the 4 different databases of iTunes I found on it, and have no idea how not to waste all that music. I'm glad my gun and bullets are in storage.

I am wondering the same thing, as I need to bend the bracket forward to remove and replace my back seat. i am sure it is just a matter of time before it breaks. I will probably ned to get a couple spares made.

I have been reading this thread and figured i'd look into the firehouse backrest; then I got to reading the posts about how flimsy the backrest seemed. I agree with RoadieSL and IowaRoadie. Metal isn't intended to be bent back and to like that!

While lookin into the firehouse backrest I came across the drivers backrest Kuryakyn makes. It looks to be more sturdy compared to the firehouse! It retails for $199 on Kury's website, but I found it here:

http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=1554

The Firehouse is 172.99 and the Kury at that site is 168.95; that made my decision a lot easier, but I have never had either or seen either in person! Can anyone offer any input on the Kuryakyn drivers backrest???

It looks like the Kury one has a different mounting setup. You will see those bars more, but it looks like it will give the back seat room to slide in. That is the problem with mine, as I have to bend it forward to get the back seat into position. Don't get me wrong. i love the backrest, as it does not push me forward very much but gives excellent comfort for the long ride. I want to see if I can get a bracket fabricated that has a hinge on it that folds forward, instead of bending it.

I started with a Diamond Backrest and it fit and worked well, then changed my seat to a Mustang and added the Mustang backrest. Can't see it in my photo because I when I am riding fast curves I take it off so I do not get lazy counter leaning in the curves. For general down the highway riding it is a must for me. The Mustang is a great unit and very comfortable.

I do not have an account with Kuryakyn because they require a minimum of $500.00 for the first order. I haave had 2 of you ask about the driver backrest that they have; that gets me about half way to being able to establish an account with them. Remember your price is my cost plus 10% plus shipping.
