putting Fog Lights on 3 Years, 12 Months ago
eh all

I want to put fog lights on my Limby bar.

With using 12V car lites do I need an additional relay for them or any other electrical mod??

Will the provided wires be ok?

Inline fuse too, right?

Any suggestions for a switch?

thanks

I have Harley fog lights on my engine guard, they are hooked to the headlight low beam. My passing lights are hooked to the headlight high beam. Both passing lights and fog lights are wired with a relay and an in line fuse. The headlight beam operates the appropriate relay which in turn operates the lights. Each pair of lights has its own wires and fuse so as to not overload the original wires and fuse.

watch the wattage on the foglights, don't want to strain your electrical system. I have the kury accessory switch, has three separate switches, each 10amp with their own fuses and a main fuse. Though the wires might be a bit unsightly as the wires and fuses boxes are in line and will most likely be by where the fork meets the frame, but they are black, though you might need to tape the wiring some more. Easy install, easy access, easy on/off and already fused, plus the switches are lighted.

Just curious, what lights exactly are you looking to put on?

Harley has part# 68913-98B Engine Guard Mount Fog Lamp kit. It comes with a wire harness, inline fuse, relay, and switch. I mounted the switch on the front screw for the clutch lever perch, so that it is right next to the other switches. I leave it off unless I want it on.it gets its power from the low beam headlight. I put the headlight on low beam when I shut down and with the fog light switch off they arn't sucking up power when you start the engine. In daytime after engine start I switch to high beam with the passing lights. When it is dark I turn on the fog lights. At night if there is no traffic I run high beam with passing lights, if there is traffic I run low beam with fog lights. The Harley kit comes with 55 watt H3 bulbs; unlss you have a high output alternator change them to 35 watt H3. I have PIAA high intensity lamps in both the passing and fog lamps, they are 35 watt electrically with 70 watt light output.I got an extra fog light wire harness and used it for the passing lights. The relays with inline fuses are under the seat next to the battery, the harness wires run under the fuel tank to the front.

Bushr are you going to operate them separately like Clifford or were planning on extra light with all four...

Operate them together and they surely would stress the electrical but fog on low beam and spot on high..??

AS well I always thought fog lights were amber and driving lights were clear ?????

That's what most think...I think. It has nothing to do with the colour of the lens/bulb but the aim of the light. Fog lites have no light pointed upwards, it is straight out and/or down and that's why they must to be mounted low to work. This way there is no reflection of the fog or rain.

I picked up a pair of H-D ones today---very nice heavy chrome and they come with a complete wireing harness, fuses, relay and switch.

I'll bring the beer!!
