I have HK (I think) short shot pipes, a Barons Air Kit and the jet kit. Last summer went from east Texas to Sturgis. In the higher elevations (New Mexico, Colorado) gas mileage went up about 5 mpg (from 40ish to 45ish)and on the return it dropped back down. I agree with others the thing is still more fun than a cage so even if it dropped in the lower 30's I would still be riding. Expert Boarder Posts: 477 Re:50+ MPG Yesterday 3 Years, 12 Months ago   My 06 Silverado, stock, with a fairing vs. the windshield consistantly gets 41-42 mpg at crusing speeds of 65-75. The other day, running to work at 0400, a trooper passed me as i was running 68 mph...speed limit 55....most were going 70. I was lucky that I was running slow that day. Most mornings its 70-80 on the way in, and 65-75 on the way out. Went for a ride today with a group...rode 40-50 mph..Lots of rain...Got 52.6 mpg.. I have been getting 32-33 MPG on average riding my 7 mile trip to work and back daily. Granted is not as much milage as I would like to achieve but is alot better than I was getting in my "other ride"... (3/4 ton chevy silverado) at 9-11 MPG. Equated to a fill up every 1 1/2 weeks with other go here and go there things I have to do. With a 36 gallon tank in that beast you guys can do the math. moral to that story is that i am thrilled to be riding and even at 32- 33 MPG having it pay for itself in not having to gas up the truck. Would like to squeeze out a few more MPG's out of my bike. I did get 40 MPG's on one road trip at 70 MPH constant speed and fully loaded with windshield, T-Bag and saddle bags. I wonder if it had to do with the moisture in the air or the fact that you may have been riding more conservatively. Years ago there was an outfit that sold a water injector you could add on to your car that mixed water with the gas for better gas mileage. Odd as it sounds when you think of the problems water in the gas tank can cause, apparently this thing worked to some degree.
