Moderator Posts: 6955 Thread pitch on the shift rod 5 Years, 5 Months ago   OK , here goes,short story, I bought a used set of forwards off ebay and they have a couple things missing .I need to come up with a longer shift rod, so I was wandering if anyone : A , had a suggestion for the longer piece I need such as what thread pitch and size that goes in the original shifter so I can lengthen it, or : B, something else (yes B is very generic). Also , they are Mapam forwards, does anybody know how to contact them for parts? Leaving them on just in case you see a babe stranded on the side of the road. SS is much better looking as it polishes up like chrome. Just buy a length of aluminum tubing (can't remember the diamenter and I'm not at home to measure), cut to the length you want and run a tap through both ends. One end is LH, the other RH. If you use SS, then I found it easier to 'lightly' tap it and then use thread repair to build up the rest of the thread. It's just too difficult to tap it to the right size with 'normal' store-bought taps.
