floorboard mods 3 Years, 11 Months ago
Hey all...I was trying to figure out a way to use footpegs instead of floorboards but then i saw the tech articles about changing the angle of the floorboards, and adding a peg to the outside of the floorboards...im a shorter guy and i have a very very bad back and dont feel like i have enough leverage with the boards the way they are right now...was wondering how much changing the pitch of the floorboard helped other short guys with bad backs!! also curious who has added the highway peg to the side of their floorboard and how well it worked out....and how much more i am going to drag my boards with either of these mods
thanks guys

i tilted my floorboards and love the improvement...much more comfy...but you can only tilt so much before you have to move the controls forward a little, as far as draggin goes...not much difference

dmfarms I see your running the Barons bar how did you do your floorboards with that bar? I have the same bar snd things are really CLOSE. Did you just tilt them or did you tilt and move forward. I would like to do mine but haven't really looked real close at what I need to do.

i just did the tilt in kind of a hurry to ride one morning, but noticed if i tilted to much the shift lever hit the housing (adjusted that a little) and the fluid resivoir would hit, i can get my finger between the bar and the floorboard, so not tooo close, i might move the contols forward a bit later, but for now the tilt i got is much better foot positioning

Re:floorboard mods 3 Years, 11 Months ago
I had back surgery 20 years ago (yeah, I'm 40, let's not go THERE!) and thus getting a comfy ride is important to me. I did the Zoomer floorboard mod, Star Bar and Ultimate Seats; fits me just right now. I think putting the floorboards ahead did me the most good; oh yeah, I also installed the Kuryakan pegs to outside of my floorboards; real nice to be able to move your feet/legs around when cruising down the road...but since I did the Zoomer mod, they don't ever drag. The floorboards drag just like they did the stock position, but what fun would riding be if you didn't scrape now and then? They have those replaceable pads for a reason!

I got bad leg cramps before I moved mine forward and tilted them. I'm 5'10" and it's great no more sore legs when I ride I can streach out. If You're much shorter than Me You'll have to modify the peg mod and Move them back a little my legs are straight out on the pegs.

Re:floorboard mods 3 Years, 11 Months ago
I just finished tilting my floorboards...left side couldnt have been simpler but that brake side was a big pain!! I am running bub stubbies and my brake pedal rubs a little bit on the the front exhaust which has not bothered me until now...could not tilt the floorboard because it was banging on the exhaust pipe
so what i did was that i ground out the front hole so that the whole floorboard would move forward about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch forward and then ground out the back hole to the right size, it wasnt complicated just annoying to keep checking that front hole

so curt you may want to try to plan a better way to tilt that right side floorboard and maybe let me know how you did it!!
thanks everybody

also, maybe the tech article should be amended to give this little corollary for when your brake hits your pipe

Did the floorboards-forward-and-added-side-pegs thing. However I've since added Cobra crash bars so the floorboard extending doesn't work. I did however extend the brake setup about 2" so I have room for my 13's. Did the shifter cut and flip also. Still looking for a way around the Cobra's though. I like the extension and tilt.

I like my Cobra Fatty bars, greyphart, but if I was wanting the floorboard extension and tilt more, I'd probably swap out for a Yami Big Bar. JMO
