You can change to syn whenever you feel like doing it. I'm guessing that will be when it cools down to like 95. You don't want to use any oil that says "Energy conserving" in the API donut on the label. That oil has friction modifiers that will toast the clutch. Some people say you have to use motorcycle specific oil. Others use car oil. Your call on that. But go with a known brand. No money saved in ruining a motor using junk oil. Changing it at 3000 miles is a little soon IMO. Do a search here for oil and start reading. You'll get lots of opinions on what works.

I've changed my synthetic twice in the first 3000 miles. But that was just once every 5 years.

Is there any truth to the statement that once you go synthetic you can't (or shouldn't) go back? Thought about going synthetic in the cage; almost 150k miles.

Boy,that can of worms just got opened again
Well I use amsoil 10w40 with a supertec#7313 filter. I've tried a few others but mine seems to like the 10w40 better.
