O.K. so when or where do you draw the line with friends and friends of friends giving advice and wanting to make " adjustments on YOUR bike?

The Story;

So, sitting around with a few pals (good ones) and then a few neighbots show up to join the local chit-chat.
One of them pointing out that I have not yet fully removed that way to damn hard gas tank sticker. Naturally everyone in the group has an idea or an how to. After calming the masses I needed to retreat to the bathroom to return some of the beverages from previouly enjoyed. I come back and what do I see, one the fricking neighbors "friends" hunched over my Roadie (which is an 07 and barley broke 600 miles) with a frickin razor blade trying to remove what was left of the sticker. Well son of a b&^$% guess what, yep, a small clean cut right through the clear coat. After my friends used his head to fully open the garage door and calmed me down I'm left with this nasty sh*& mark on my tank just enough in plain site for all the world to see.

Sorry for the rant, had to get that off my chest before bed.

Anyone know a better way to fix this then ordering a new tank from Yamaha?

The worst I would have come up with was to take the remains of the sticker off with good ol' gas-lean...
Uh, clear coat is good but, I would leave razor blades for cleaning glass...
Um... your neighbor really

And you would be entitled to...

not my neighbor, but a friend of one of the guys who lives down the street. Have only met him a few times, have never met his friend who was scratching away at the sticker.

Shoot, that sucks. I guess depending on how bad it is you might be able to polish it out and wax it, but since it was a razor I doubt it... btw, for the sticker a hair dryer and some patience works just fine, you can eventually use your fingernails to just scrape it off then the last bit of adhesive you can either just rub off with your hand, scratch with your nail, or use a towel or something and just rub til its gone. As for the scratch now, unless you're somewhat proficient at body work I don't think it'd be that big of a deal for a body shop to clean up for you? Hopefully, at least.

removing the sticker was not a big deal really at all, just did not have alot of time over the past week to do so, when i would get a few min here and there i would work at it with hair dryer and goo-gone. slowly getting it nice and clean. I guess dip-a^%$ just could not stand to see it only about half gone, and wanted to help me out.

by the way, welcome to the site...

What do you mean by 'right throught the clearcoat'?

If the basecoat is not scratched then you can put a dab of clearcoat on it and buff it out. If the basecoat is scratched then you have a permanent scratch.

A body shop could fix it in the later case but dependin on the cost it might be cheaper to buy a used tank.

Wet your finger and run it over the scratch. If it disappers then you're OK and just dab some clearcoat overtop.

.... I see a custom paint job in your future.

Anyone - friend, friend of friend, etc. - who is stupid enough to touch your bike with not only their hand but a razor blade is fodder for whatever you'd like to do to him.

I'd get him to pay for the fix - or your friend/neighbor. Sounds like a real @$$ hole. Hope it is just the clear coat as it's much easier to fix.

When I was being taught how to do a bike blessing, the very first rule was NEVER touch the person's bike w/o permission!!!!

Sorry to hear about the damage.....the guy who did it should pay for it to be fixed IMHO!!

Best way I've found is to use the guys head to rub it off....just apply a little pressure to the back of his head and rub untill most of the skin is gone from his forehead. Then wipe it off with a clean towel.

Man that sucks. The guys I run with wouln't have let it happen. As soon as the guy even made a move toward my bike they would have at least started screaming, if not kicking.
