Re:high beam 5 Years, 8 Months ago
I know I am repeating myself here from another post but this the best
thing I,ve done for my bike yet
The 2005 Silverado has as separate plug and circuit with a relay for the passing
lamps and they come on only once the engine is running ... I cursed Yamaha"s switch on the left lamp housing.. I like to be able to turn my passing lamps on or off whether I am hi or low beam I rather at night in stop and go traffic just have the low beam on no passing lamps then when moving quickly or in the day have the passing lamps on and not go out on hi beam..so I replaced the switch with one from harley and and now with my thumb I can flip the aux lights on or off at any time wth out reaching over the windshield at 50 mph or stopping the bike if I want to pass some one

Now for the bikes that dont have the aux circuit I Strongly recommend

Yamaha will probably smartin up and future R* may come with a handle bar switch..
They are halfway there with the separate passing lamp circuit

The dealer had wired my passing lamps by loosely stuffing the wires into the connecters from the running lights and when the one running light started acting up I started investigating and found the white connecter unused dangling in the headlamp housing..even had "pl" inked on it ...phoned Yamaha and they told me what it was for and sent me the addendem for the silverdo model R* I then hooked my passing lamps up to the wires goin to the connector as I didnt have the mate from the passing lamp side then gave the dealer an earfull...here is the PDF file for the 2005 siverado hook up

Well, I went down to the auto zone store and bought a Silver H4ST, installed it when I got home, in spite of the fact that the old bulb started working again. Now I have two spares; the old OME bulb and the "maybe-about-to-crap-out" one. Spares are good....right?

JMayton--

Sorry this took so long, but it was better hidden in my garage than I care to admit. Don't know if you even need it anymore, but I promised I would post it...

Hope it does somebody some good!

Musky is right... the blue wires go to the running lights and that is where my passing lamps were connected to by the dealer...to stay on all the time..til I found the separate circuit white connector...

After lookin at the wiring diagram..in the service manual... it looks like the red wire with the yellow strip R/Y goes to the headlight fuse and the blue wires L are connected to it...
the R/Y wire goes from the headlight fuse to the dimmer switch the yellow and green for hi and low beam come from the dimmer switch to the headlight bulb

Probably the blue running light wires are more accessible and easier to splice to than the R/Y wire

Post edited by: Pop Rivet, at: 2006/09/19 01:13
