Yamamamma denied all when I called.

Wonder you didn't have a little stream of fuel running out the pipes with that setup.

05 Silverado

I got it a 3,000 miles and again around 9,000 miles.
First time everything was stock except for a stage 1 exhaust mod.
Cured it with seafoam.
Second time everything stock except for the V&H Short shots.
AIS was also removed at both times.

The second time it took 2 seafoam treatments and 1 ring free treatment to cure it.
I also changed the way I warmed the bike up and seeing how every road around me is 30mph for at least 2 miles I would keep it in 2nd till I could go faster. I also cruise in 4th gear alot more now.
I changed the amount of oil I add at each oil change to 3 1/2 quarts.
I haven't had a problem since.

Tom you got yours at about the same mileage as me but I got it again at 16000. The way I licked it was I sprayed the carb and killed the motor then I pulled the pipes squirted seafoam in the exhaust ports and stuffed a rag in them. Let it sit for 24 hours and then put 4 oz of seafoam in the full tank of gas ran the poop out of it for that tank and the re-jetted now that is was all cleaned out. I may have gone a little lean but just before the last SVS set in I had a dyno run and it was good and that was two days before it screwed up. No I can run my finger in in my pipes and I get NO Soot. It runs great.

Awww your just trying to make me feel good aren't ya Curt
Since then I've added the Mr. C. air filter and rejetted the carb.
I just got the Barons PM Thumbscrew so I can dial in the primary.
I was thinking of having it dyno'ed and adjusting from there, but I want to see how I do setting the PMS and then checking the needle setting.
I'm using the Baron's needle and it's on the 4th slot from the top, stock washer set up now.
Did the WOT and the 170 main seems right.

Doing a trip to Fl. in August which is when I should hit 16,000, I'm at 13,000 now.

For myself I blame the SVS as much on how I was warming the bike up and lugging it as much as anything else. Now I do a shorter warm up and keep the RPM's higher and that seems to be working.

I have a question for the Canadian owners. Have any of you had svs ? I have talked to 3 different dealers in the Vancouver area, ( one of whom I actually trust ). And they all claim that svs is unheard of in Canada & I am the first person to mention it. I find this hard to believe.

I don't ... It's amazing the stuff that dealers have not heard of.

The US and Can are no different except for the gauges. The CA ones have some extra pollution stuff on them.

2004 1700 with 2000 miles & svs The dealer jetted it & I know it was way to rich Main 200 pilot 50 Barons intake, Bak, Dyna 3000 & bubs. Dealer
just rejetted 190 main 35 pilot 4th from the bottom stock washer pms 2.5
I wanted to go down to a 180 main but dealer tried a 185 & said it was too lean. This is still warranty & he has not charged me anything yet.
I am having a hard time completely getting rid of the svs, Deep Creeped twice, shock treated fuel today & ran 20 miles down the hwy in 4th at 4000 rpm ( lucky no ticket } Only cuts out on back cylinder when cold first 1-2 miles deep creep improved it. Love the bike but serious considering getting rid of it. http://roadstarclinic.com/components/com_fireboard/template/rsc3/images/english/emoticons/angry.png

Ironman ... symptoms of SVS - when cold, run poorly, usually on on cylinder (front), backfires, misses. Improves when hot. If very bad then runs poor all the time.

I believe the 04-05 are most predisposed to getting SVS due to the poor head design of the first run heads.

If you have it, you'll know it.

Hurricane .... unfortunately you may be too far gone for any upper end treatment to help. Try doing the Deep Creep a couple of more times. You will really need to lean the carb out ... and the DJ 190 is not lean enough otherwise it will keep reappearing. There are some running a DJ170 so you can see how lean you can go under some circumstances.

One reason it may not run well with the 180 is cause the needle is too lean with teh clip "4th from the bottom". That's too lean on the needle .... and too rich on the main.

If Yamaha knows nothing of a problem....why did they change the diameter of the valve stems in 06'? And thats the only part number thats different in the book from an 04', 05' motor, to the 06'.
