I agree with Musky. If it were my bike, I think I would go ahead and change the oil now. I would expect the noises but the loss of power would without a doubt concern me regardless of what the dealer said. Peace of mind is worth thirty five bucks and theres no time like the present to learn how to change the oil and filter. As a reminder, you have to drain the oil in a couple of different places and there are a couple of differnet procedures for replacing it that can be found on this forum. I also agree with Musky that a hundred miles is a good place to change it as most of the shavings that you will find in a six hundred mile oil change are probably already in the oil.

Speaking of shavings, I just ordered a couple of magnetic drain plugs off ebay that I'm waiting on right now. If I find any metal on them when I change my oil again I'll post and let everybody know. They sound good in theory.

Nah, it doesn't get any quieter. Just put Amsoil 20w-50 in my 08 at the 600 mile service and it is still noisy. My 06 was the same way. Without water jackets more of the internal engine noise comes out than on a water-cooled bike. When the aftermarket gets going and you get some good pipes on that's what you'll be listening to and enjoying.

I've got the same bike, it does it clicks, I reckon its just normal engine noise. I ran my full length for the first oil change (I had mine done at 1200 km) but I also picked up this silicone magnet dealy that sticks to tne end of your oil filter where it attracts metal particles. I figured if any time, the first change would be the best to have something like that. I ended up taking it in to the dealership for the first service (they do the transfer case oil, too, and are supposed to give the bike a lookover.. but I don't think my shop did that, and that's another story.) Anyway, next change I'll be doing it myself and I'll be switching over to synthetic.. just makes sense

Mine does same thing, I also switched to Amsoil, they have a good quality Chrome filter too, extra $3 but it looks cool. I did notice giant leap in MPG with Amsoil, but still a little noisy. However, when at red lights and stuck in traffic I feel a WHOLE lot better about what Oil is in there.

Had it 3 months and just flipped 6K miles an hour ago on Ohio Turnpike. I did add the Ultimate Seats and never go W/O them again! MC

Thanks for all the input guys. I was a little worried at first but it sounds like my bike will be fine. Now all i have to do is find some good pipes for it.

If it makes you feel any better I have the 2008 RoadStar 1700S
and around 600 miles I was stuck in road constrution traffic and when we began to crawl She took to a low end knock, not the little knock it does like 1st. gear is to tall, but like a Mac truck. It was about 87 deg. and on new asphault. Went straight to the store and got a new filter and some 20-50 valvoline. Does not go away completely. Dealer looked at it and said the same as everyone else, nature of the beast. Could have been my imagination that day, but thought I had a drop in power, however I thought I had a problem. The Bike has been great though, I have to ride my other once in a while though.
It does tick in front exhaust area, who knows why??? and when you are stopped you can hear a tick in exhaust tail pipe area, just need louder exhaust. Looking at Yami filter, don't know how it could get any flow, good looking filter though, I have never seen one that restrictive.
Any way I got just over 1,000 miles and it seems normal now. My c50 makes all its own noises also.

Once you get it broke in try Lucasoil gas treatment
Can`t believe how much it`s quieted my top end and
motor in general. One ounce per 5 gallons plus
it`ll help keep your injectors cleanThey have a 5.25 oz.bottle

I use Amsoil 20w-50 and thier filter

I guess the other thing you might consider doing is bumping up the octane of the gas you use, i.e. go to midgrade instead of bottom end and see if that clears anything up. My pickup was doing the same tick and click and knock thing, and midgrade cleaned it right up. Costs more, but she appreciates it.
