Galloping Sound 5 Years, 8 Months ago
Doc,

What could cause a galloping sound coming from my rear cylinder exhaust pipe.
Just switched from DG HardKrome Big 3's to Vance and Hines Longshots because the HardKromes were just way to loud. I thought going to a smaller diameter pipe might alleviate the noise but it is still there.

Thanks
Topher

Is this at idle?

What is your idle set to?

All single pin crank v-twins have a galloping sound just like a Harley Actually it is coming from both exhausts.. dont know how you would get it from one exhaust...dont forget a galloping horse has four legs.. maybe you were used to an even beat like from a Honda Shadow with dual pin crank

Sounds like you want your bike to run like a Honda Goldwing...
aint gonna happen

Post edited by: Pop Rivet, at: 2006/09/22 18:24

It only does it at idle which is set to 900 rpm. BTW, I put my hand to the pipe and it is not sucking. I though it my be sticky valve syndrome. Hey, don't get me wrong, I don't mind one galloping horse, but the whole rodeo?

Its the sound of the rodeo that gets my heart pumping... I love watching the R* wag its tail as she plays out that beautiful gallop... My Harley rocked on rubber mounts while it played much the same medley

Topher--

Mine was doing the very same thing...the gallop sound is normal like Pop Rivet says, but mine was EXTREME. On mine, i put my hand down at the end of the pipes, and the front cylinder felt like it was firing twice as often.

Turns out I had the dreaded sticky valve syndrome. It's taken a whole tank of gas with a bunch of Marvel Mystery Oil in it...AND riding a lot at 60 in 2nd gear...but as of yesterday, the problem is going away. Got a normal sounding idle coming back and she's running better. Still gallops, but now it's more like quarterhorses than Clydesdales...

hope that helps--

RK
